5.0 out of 5 stars This could be important, 8 Jun 2003
I bought this record rather on whim, and over the last three months it has served as one of those initial pleasant suprises that never cease to lose their charm and spark.
Charm might be an inappropriate descritor, however, as Giddy Motors are far too vitriolic and angry. They sound like they'd rather spit at you than tip their hat in the street. Utterly insane and spastically rythmic, they make four minute songs implode and snap and seem to last no more than two. Falling somewhere between the post-punk bile of The Birthday Party (with added shine and a nod of the head to more modern dance-punk revivalists) and the odd hint of spikey free-jazz, the songs are diverse and almost exclusively nasty. 'Sassy', for example, roars through solid percussion, a sneering pseudo-rap and bouts of noise before seguing into the more traditionalist punk clatter of 'Dog Hands' (incidentally, the only remotely weak track here) which grinds into 'Venus Medallist', offering four minutes of gorgeous instrumental respite and sits apart from everything else here, proving just how ambitious 'Make it Pop' is. In fact, the whole album is the sound of ideas being spat out at a phenomonal rate and continually failing to miss their target. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Record, 18 Feb 2003
Giddy Motors are one of my favourite new bands and this is an excitingly original record. Very heavy but with some surprising light touches, notably the unexpected Venus Medallist, this is a punk record with a very funky feel. The album opener, Magmanic is one of the most viciously funked-up songs I've ever heard, and the quality never drops away over the 8 songs. A must for fans of the new and adventurous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, 30 April 2003
Giddy Motors are the most exciting thing I've heard in years... Not since the Pixies have I felt this way about about a band. All 8 tracks are top notch but my 3 faves are as follows... 'Hit Cap', an unbelievably funky song, relentless in pace, it never lets up... well, except for the bongo solo... 'Sassy' is a joyfully blusterous song about a lady... and Whirled by Curses recounts a murder and burial at sea...
I've seen the Giddy Motors at Whelan's in Dublin and they kick ar$e live... hardly surprising since Make It Pop was recorded by Steve Albini. The three members can play their instruments really well, with the drumming of Manu Ros standing out - it's flawless...
The bottom line is that this band is tight, they're great musicians and they have their own sound and an originality that stands out by a mile from the rest of the schlock that's around. If you want something exciting then buy this record!
