Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
The latest version of the world's bestselling PC golf game franchise, Links 2003 is a polished, comprehensive and challenging simulation that holds appeal for all levels of player.

Living up to its claims of photo realistic graphics, it's a game brimming with options, yet also equipped with a useful if a little drawn out tutorial section. Still, the learning curve is further aided by special aids, which can be turned off as the player gets better, to help with judging the likes of aim and power.

Included are six brand new courses to the Links franchise, along with a comprehensive and genuinely useable course designer. There's a choice on how you play your strokes too. While the traditional gauge that permeates most golf games is included, a real time swing--whereby the mouse movement controls the club hitting the ball--is a more interesting way to play.

The devil in Links 2003 though is well and truly in the detail. From the nuances of creating your own golfer through to the visualisation of the courses, it's clear that little expense has been spared. That the game also comes with a challenging and long lasting single-player mode in addition to time-guzzling online multiplayer options is but a further compelling reason to buy the game. For if you're a golf game fan, nothing on any format does this better. And heck, even if you're not and you like your sports simulations, it really is worth finding out what all the fuss is about. --Simon Brew

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent golf sim from Microsoft, 8 Nov 2002
One of the advantages of having a Broadband connection is that you are able to download sizeable game demos in a matter of minutes. And so was the case with Links 2003. My wife and I have played the Tiger Woods series for quite some time now, and were anxious to see how Microsoft's own title would compare. I am very pleased to say that Links 2003 is well worth the money, and I am only sorry that I didn't hear of the series sooner! The first thing to strike you about the game are the graphics. Microsoft have included six courses in the game (with the option to download more if so desired) and the attention to detail here is superb, and at times are a breathtaking sight. You can actually imagine yourself being there. The golfers themselves are well rendered too, and have their own 'commentary' which is both witty and intelligent, adding a sense of humour to the game. Also it comes on three discs, so obviously there is a great amount of detail there. It would be unfair of me to compare this to the Tiger Woods games, as I enjoy both immensely, so I'll take the safe option and recommend both this and Tiger Woods 2003. Take my advice and add this to your collection as soon as possible. Now, if only I could get my wife off the computer - It's my turn to play now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate golf simulation, 24 Dec 2002

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Links golf sims are nothing new, but like the EA Fifa series of football games, occasional tweaks to the successful formula is all that is required.
Links 2003 takes the game a step farther toward the real thing with the 'Real Time Swing' mouse motion where you have more control than ever over the strength and direction of shot, but just like the real thing it's much easier to mess it up.
However, the best thing is that it can be as easy or hard as you want with four different styles of play, including the regular mouse-click method.
Other playing aids include a putting guide and green analyser and you can set your skill level to suit individual players. It's dead easy to win tournaments if you select amateur skill level as you can't hit slices, but you have to be precision personified to do well at the highest setting.
The graphics are great, but you'll probably have to turn the graphic level right down, especially if playing with friends, because it can take an absolute age to redraw each scene.
Nevertheless, it's surely the most realistic golf game on the market, with strong wind really having an effect, and sand shots proving as frustrating as the real thing. One for the purists.

4.0 out of 5 stars Links 2003, 15 Oct 2002
An amazing game well worth the wait! Although not alot different from previous versions, the games has some very nice touches. The graphics, courses and gameplay live up to the brand name which has come to be associated with the Links range.

Overall the game delivers to expectations, if you already have previous version then maybe you will not be impressed. If for any reason you do not have any of the recent Links range then this is a must!!!
