Fans of the Another Late Night compilations may be surprised by the choice of compiler for this instalment of the series. Tommy Guerrero, a former US professional skateboarder who has released funky leftfield instrumental albums for Mo' Wax in the UK--his A Little Bit of Something LP attracted critical acclaim--may not be a name mentioned in the same breath as Groove Armada and Zero 7. Judging by this mix, though, he is more than up to the job. Continuing the slightly obscure but deeply funky theme set on previous mixes, Guerrero has selected tracks from Muddy Waters ("Tomcat"), Bill Withers ("I'm Her Daddy"), Can ("Vitamin C") and Brit funk outfit Cymande ("One More Time") that prove there is more to so-called "chillout" than the ubiquitous Ibiza fare. This is still horizontal stuff though, with tracks blended effortlessly into each other without the need for fancy mixing. It's a winner, and it's good to see a successful series such as this not resorting to the use of big names to guarantee sales. --Miles Atkinson
