Amazon.co.uk Review

Stargate SG-1 is the TV spin-off from the 1994 big-screen movie. In the roles of Colonel Jack O'Neill and Dr Daniel Jackson respectively are Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks. They are joined by Captain Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) and guilt-stricken former alien baddie Teal'c (Christopher Judge) to form the primary unit SG-1. With a seemingly endless network of Stargates found to exist on planets all across the known universe, their mission is to make first contact with as many friendly races as possible.

Episodes on this disc: "Meridian", "Revelations".It's Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan all over again as Daniel Jackson decides the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, sacrificing himself for the greater good in "Meridian". The departure of Michael Shanks is both sudden and suspicious. His Season 6 replacement--Corin Nemec as Jonas Quinn--is quickly established too. So much intrigue will leave regular viewers puzzled, especially since this is only the penultimate cliffhanger to the year.

"Revelations" are aplenty at the end of year five. Earth's seemingly all-powerful allies the Asgard show yet more chinks in their armour. The SG-1 teams' grief over Daniel is remarkably short-lived. And behind the scenes a change of US broadcast channels could mean anything might happen between now and next year. Is this the beginning of the end? --Paul Tonks

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful end to an amazing season, 20 Oct 2002

I usually feel slightly peeved at paying full price for a dvd when you get half the number of episodes, but not in this case. The 2 episodes are brilliant. The acting is superb, dealing with tragedy in one, and the aftermath of that tragedy in the second while trying to continue with the mission. These are characters fans have come to love, and their portrayal remains consistent throughout. The episodes are well paced, and they even find time to poke fun at themselves in the second one when Jack asks 'Is that it?'(if you see it, you'll understand why!). Added to this, there are some directors' viewpoint looks ahead at some of the first episodes of series 6, which tease and tantalise as well as offer an insight into the creation of the Stargate series.
Sad though I am at certain events on this disc, it only makes me look forward to the next one even more! Buy it - you'll love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the lot, 26 May 2003

I'm a sci-fi fan. I've seen most sci-fi shows. And Stargate stands head and shoulders above the rest. From the beginning they've had more complex characters, more interesting plots, more twists then any other show that has 'Star' in the title. Now in its sixth season, its got past the plots and stories evey show has to do, and has never had the moral absolutes other show have insisted on, and is now in its prime. Daniel Jackson has gone, but returns in at least one of these episodes in a complex and emotionally challenging story. Nightwalkers takes on X-Files at its own game, and wins. Jonas proves to be more than just a Daniel replacement. teal'c develops humour. Jack is as intriguing, funny and fascinating character as always (brillianyl played by Ricahrd Dean Anderson...that man deserves a hell of a lot more recognition for his skills as an actor), and, in this season, Major Carter, played by Amanda Tapping, really comes into her own. She steps up to the plate to fill the void left by both Jackson and O'neill, and shows she's more than equal to the job.
