What a fantastic film! This truly is a classic adventure lived through the characters of Auntie Mame and her nephew, Patrick. The pair come from two different worlds, hers being of parties and the good life, and Patrick from a sober world controlled by his father. When Patrick's father dies the two are thrown together under the supervision of Mr Babcock from the Knickerboker Bank, who is instructed to do all that he can to prevent Patrick turning out anything like his Aunt. How will Patrick turn out? Will he carry on to fulfill the destiny his father has set for him or will he learn to love the freedom that his Auntie Mame offers? There are so many adventures on the way as Patrick learns about the world and what 'living' really is.

It is hard to watch this film without taking something from it, whether it be how to mix the perfect Martini or how to live,live,live! One thing is sure, you will fall in love with Auntie Mame and realise that everybody should have one!

The flamboyant, vibrant socialite Mame is the quintessential roaring 20's flapper, with a huge desire to live life to enjoy it. Into her world comes her orphaned nephew Patrick. Immediately the two fall in love with each other, and she spends the rest of the movie, which takes us through the Great Depression and beyond, trying to rescue him from the stuffy, conventionalist people he's used to.


This is one of my old time favorite movies. It is funny, entertaining, makes you sometimes cry, you will laugh a lot and a great lesson to be yourself, individual and not just keep in line what one is suppose to think and how one has to behave.

For Rosalind Russel (1907-1976) it proved to be the role of her life. Her most performance in the title role of the long-running stage hit Auntie Mame and the subsequent movie version is just memorable. When asked which role she was most closely identified with, she replied that strangers who spotted her still called out, "Hey, Auntie Mame!". Russell was nominated for an Academy Award and won a Golden Globe for her portrayal.


You will love this movie!!

It is worth going out and buying a multiregion DVD just to settle down and enjoy Rosalind Russell crashing into and out of the lives of so many people. Rosalind Russell brings to the silver screen possibly the performance of her career and enchants all who have seen this madcap tale that is actually quite ahead of its time in some of its thoughts on female independance and the crass obsessions of the white middle classes in America. But enough of the serious stuff! Buy this DVD to enjoy the gags, the double entendres and yes dammit the hats!
