Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Burnout 2, like its acclaimed predecessor, puts fun right at the top of the agenda, dispenses with niggling irritants like realism and delivers top-class gaming entertainment.

So what's new? There are additional locations, including a twisty road round the Rocky Mountains and an inspired airport-based level. There is also a greater choice of vehicles. Naturally enough you have to balance your need for speed against the need for good handling and take into account the weather and the kind of level you're racing across.

Yet the core of Burnout 2 is still arcade-style racing and there's little else that does it better. It's incredibly accessible and an absolute blast to play. It doesn't matter whether you're competing in the enhanced single-player modes or hooking up with friends--it's completely irresistible. Visually, the game looks great and moves very, very quickly. The action is interspersed with elaborate crashes, and when you do hit something you shouldn't, you're rewarded with an action replay for your trouble.

There are genuinely very few negatives here. Those who prefer their driving games flavoured with a bit more realism are going to be happier with a Gran Turismo game. Also, despite some good improvements and additions, there aren't enormous differences between this and the original Burnout. However, Burnout 2 is an exemplary piece of gaming entertainment, and a welcome antidote to the growing band of games that just take themselves far too seriously. Treat yourself. You'll be glad you did. --Simon Brew

5.0 out of 5 stars Super fast!!, 12 Sep 2004
By D. Reynolds (Hertfordshire) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
In my opinion this is an amazing game for many reasons. There's so much to do on there.

Lets start with the graphics.
Amazing, probaly got better graphics than any of my games. When you crash your car, it just looks so real, like that is what would happen to it and the cars look great before you smash em up. The surrounding environment looks pretty good such as trees, cafe's and mountains. All the smoke and extra stuff also looks great. Graphics = 10/10.
Audio.
The audio is great too. When you driving your car and using your turbos, they sound as though your there. And when you crash your car or zoom past the motorway slowpokes, it sounds amazing. When you crash you can hear the crunching of your car as it tears apart. Audio = 10/10.

Gameplay.
The gameplay is excellent. Like i said earlier, there's so much to do. You can do championships and win medals and trophy's, you do pursuits, crash mode which is the best thing. You start with loads of turbos go round a bend or whatever and then smash into the traffic jams, there's 15-20 of them i think and there all different. You crash and then it calculats how much dollars worth of damage you've created. The more damage, the more money, the better medal you get. There's also a learning school which you also get medals on and if you get all golds you unlock the drivers ed car. When you do a pursuit you will unlock the car you chased which are normally better than the one you are using. The best car is the supercar. There's about 18-20 cars in total. It is a mutilplayer game where you can do 2 player crash, races and pursuits. As your racing you fill your turbo up by going past cars fast without touching, skidding round bends and doing jumps etc. Gameplay = 10/10.

Overrall i rate this game 10/10 or 5/5

5.0 out of 5 stars THE GREATEST ARCADE RACER TO HIT THE PS2!!!, 15 Oct 2002
This game is a must for any arcade racing fan!Burnout 2 still has most of the features from the original (championship mode, single race,Face off, etc)and more. The newest editions to the game are "learn to burn" ,pursuit mode and crash for cash.In pursuit mode you drive a police car an as the name sujests, you have to pursue the other car.You have to hit the other car several times to make it stop.If you manage to do this with in the alotted distance, the car is then yours to race about at will.In crash for cash, there are 15 levels that are completely insane. In one level, you have to charge down the motorway an hit as many buses as possible. These features add a huge amount of playablity, and we havent even gotten to the championship mode yet!

In the championship mode, you race against 3 other computer controlled cars in over 30 different tracks.Upon completing individual championships, you then get access to face offs and pursuit mode, and eventually, the customised championship. This is where the real fun starts....

The main difference to the first one is the graphics. The cars look truly amazing, and the tracks and background scenery are stunning, thats if you get a chance to look at them as your hutrling down the wrong side of the road with the boost on.

All in all,Burnout 2:Point of Impact is a master piece that truly does exceed the expectations of most sequels. It has amazing graphics, bags of replay value and is great fun to play.
Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The biggest adrenaline rush you can get from a game, 1 Jan 2003
By M. Carter (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Burnout 2 takes all the best bits of driving games - crashes, ultra-high speeds, power-slides etc - and moulds them all into an utterly fantastic video game experience.

The graphics are some of the best seen on the PS2; the cars aren't exact replicas vis a vis GT3, but everything is really polished. You must see the rain and snow effects!

This game is really, really fast. You build up your nitro (turbo boost)and then hold down r2 for as long as possible. If you manage to gain points whilst using turbo, you get instantly another nitro. This carries on for as long as you are able (my record is five - not easy at all, believe me), allowing you to reach insane speeds.

I've had this game since it came out in October, and I can unequivocally state that it still produces the same level of adrenaline rush now as it did then (if not more). Simply brilliant.
