Amazon.co.uk Review
Whether you live to hang 10 or haven't put a toe in the water since Jaws, put your life on hold, because you won't be able to tear yourself away from Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer. Expecting the same old trick-based console game? Forget it, and prepare yourself for the rich kind of gameplay found too rarely in the gaming market.

Pro Surfer's scenario development alone breaks it out of the pack. Whether it's the beaches' loading screens that feature Slater's voiceover inviting you into the scenario or the entertaining, attainable goals, this game sets a new standard for the genre. Pro Surfer's superb graphics and mood-setting background music ensure you'll have your way with the waves.

One caution: The dozens of manoeuvres listed in the manual can be daunting. Fortunately, Pro Surfer provides a clever tutorial to ease you into the gameplay and soften the relatively steep learning curve. Spend a few minutes with the tutorial and you'll be shooting curls and ripping 360s that not only "beat the local," but also make you genuinely proud of your accomplishments. Surf's up! --Patty Stuart

5.0 out of 5 stars Surfing Heaven for the PS2!, 18 Jan 2003
By A Customer
As a regular surfer I have been interested in all the surfing games available for the PS2. I have to say I was truly amazed at how good the graphics were on this game when the first wave jacked up and was heading towards me in the tutorial. After the first wave I was hooked. The graphics and dynamics of the waves are stunning. Varying from beach to beach, the game designers should be applauded!

Barrel riding is the ultimate move in real surfing. The meter (like Tony Hawk's grinds) works brilliantly in the barrel. Floaters are really good. Snaps off the lips are great. The air tricks are spectacular and have grabs, flips and spins. One recommendation I have to existing owners is to watch the replays after a good run, and toggle with the slow motion function when you do a big move - Amazing graphics from all sorts of angles! There is also a good variety of surfers to choose from, all with their own personal styles and special moves.

The soundtrack is great, its really chilled out surfing music (which makes a nice change from the crap punk music from Tony Hawk's 4), with some classic favourites from recent surfing films. There are also lots of film sequences that are well put together, and add realism to the game (lacking in the other surfing titles). The 2-player mode is also well put together and is great fun.

No game can be perfect, the carve tricks on the face of the wave are a bit unrealistic and taking off on the waves is too easy in my opinion, but these are just my own personal gripes and do not deter from the overall enjoyment of the game.

I recommend this game highly to surfers and non-surfers. Its a great feeling to burst out of a really deep barrel, go straight into a long grinding floater and finish the sequence off with an awe inspiring air! If you want a game with great graphics and great gameplay, and you like the Tony Hawks games then this is an essential purchase. Its like a breath of fresh air to the extreme sports games world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, 23 Dec 2002
I have already got this game from when i was on holiday in america, it is very good game with good graphics and many surfers, boards and locatioins etc. but the only thing which put this down is that it is too easy to complete because i completed it i a week. Although it is easy it is a great game for surfers and non surfers becasuse the graphics are really cool. there are many world class surfers to choose from like slater, mickey etc. If you buy this game i would advise you to buy it cheap with tony hawks pro skater 4 as that is a great game too. So what are you waiting for go and buy IT!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, 25 Sep 2002
By Alvin (Bristol uk) - See all my reviews
Kelly slater is the worlds best surfer, And now you get the chance to take control of 9 of the best surfers in the world, And surf the worlds best waves. The game has been designed so you never surf the same wave twice. Dont ask me how they did that but the game is awesome. The waves look awesome, They are actual real wave locations that have been digitally put into the game. You can surf waves in Australia to Hawaii. As a surfer myself I was stoked when I played this game, I recently played this whilst I was in the states. Non surfers will also love this game as the graphics and the gameplay are superb. This game is from the people who bought you Tony Hawks so anyone who has played it will know Kelly Slaters will rock. Go and buy this now, I would give this game 6 out of 5
