2.0 out of 5 stars The Sum of All Fears..., 20 Mar 2003
The title reflects my feelings... You know, the fear of buying a game, without checking it out first, in the hope it will be fun, and worth the money...
Well, I found it fun but it was so easy that having completed all 11 missions I was searching for the next campaign, now that I had gone through what I thought, was the training campaign. I am not an avid gamer, and I am still doing Jak & Daxter (got it at christmas) but I must have finished Sum of all fears in 3 hours max. I'm not saying I didn't die a few times or there weren't tricky bits but I have never, repeat never, finished a complete game so quickly!!

On a good point, it remined me of Wolfenstein (if any one remembers that) with slighly slicker graphics.

In summary, its too easy for the money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great game engine, but very shallow game., 2 Mar 2004
This is such a wasted opportunity. This is another Ubisoft game in the mould of the "Rainbow Six' or 'Ghost Recon' games, and shares a very similar (and very good) game engine. Unlike these other superb, realistic FPS games though, this is very short and simple, with no opportunities to use your own tactics & initiative. Even on difficult mode, the path you need to take to complete objectives is mapped out for you - so no chance of exploration or planning. The enemy AI is anything but, with targets being easy pickings - why this is far worse than Ghost Recon, I have no idea. Also in this game, you are limited to just three team members, with no pre-planning stages.

Also, the evironments are mostly set in industrial & office type areas, which don't look as good as other Tom Clancey titles, and seem to offer less sense of suspense and danger.

It just seems that this game is a complete after-thought designed *only* to tie-in with the film of the same title. This could have been superb, as it uses the same basis as the other superb GR & R6 games (which I think are quite brilliant on any console), yet it is just too simplistic and too short.

It's not all bad news, as this is o.k. to while away a couple of hours, but is only worth buying if you can get it very cheap (or possibly as a rental). Just don't expect the same tactics, longevity or excitement as Ubisoft's other Tom Clancey games.
