Album Description
FILE #2 - music from FREE FOR ALL The new Number 2 invites Number 6 to stand against him in the Village election, causing his opponent to think that victory means freedom. However, the outcome of the proceedings is being influenced and Number 6 eventually learns that only The Village is ever the winner. THE GENERAL Number 6 discovers that The Village is using a revolutionary speed-learning process to brainwash citizens. He finds an apparent ally who works for Number 2 and a plot is hatched to destroy the source of the educational broadcasts, known only as ‘The General’. MANY HAPPY RETURNS Number 6 awakes to find The Village deserted and at last has a chance to escape by sea, after building a rudimentary raft. After some perilous incidents at sea and on land, he reaches London, where his former bosses seem only too keen to help him relocate The Village. DANCE OF THE DEAD Under cover of the Village Carnival, Number 6 finds a dead body washed up on the beach and re-floats it with a message, hoping he will be rescued. Unfortunately, the new Number 2 is a commanding woman, who puts Number 6 on trial for his life, for breaching Village rules. CHECKMATE A game of human chess shows Number 6 how The Village treats its inmates as pawns, but one player, the Rook, rebels and moves without authority. Number 6 allies with the man and they construct a radio which will be sent out to sea on a raft in an attempt to signal a rescue ship. HAMMER INTO ANVIL A sadistic Number 2 causes the suicide of a young woman, which leads Number 6 to vow to avenge her death. Number 6 puts in motion a series of actions which will trick Number 2 and lead him to believe there is a Village plot to remove him, thus causing him to become unhinged. A CHANGE OF MIND To cure Number 6 of his rebellious ways, The Village performs an operation upon him, called ‘Instant Social Conversion’. Before long, Number 6 suspects that he has been drugged and turns the tables upon Number 2 in a way that will make the leader’s own female assistant betray him.
