4.0 out of 5 stars George Has a Sense of Humour (& Can Dance at the Same Time), 23 Jul 2002
By A Customer
With a dance beat reminiscent of Robbie Williams' Rock DJ, George Michael makes quite a statement with Shoot the Dog.

Unfortunately, many who may not have actually listened to the song or stopped to think about the message George is sending may have gotten the wrong idea. George is not anti-government, or anti-US, but instead wants to remind us that it's a small world out there and we'd better be careful how we use military might and that we'd better make the biggest decisions very carefully.

Fortunately, George keeps a sense of humour about things and presents his message tongue-in-cheek. Sure, maybe it's a Simpsons style sense-of-humour at the moment, but the video can't be any more blasphemous than when Genesis depicted Ronald Reagan accidentally hitting the red button in Land of Confusion...

This track has a steady dance beat, and the singer mixes a sultry-sounding lyric with the comeback of his falsetto backing vocals. Not a bad track at all; for those with open ears and minds, it just may be enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a man!!!!, 29 Jul 2002
By A Customer
Since many radio stations are afraid to play Shoot The Dog you'll have to buy it to be able to appreciate it. And it is a great song. Put it on full volume and you will feel like dancing. You may or may not reflect on what George is saying in Shoot The Dog but you will be impressed with his vocal abilities. From Barry White to Bee Gees. Shoot The Dog proves to me that George Michael is one of the best singer/songwriters in the world. The inclusion of the video is such a bonus. George's humour is unbeatable! So while I totally understand the demise of the British music scene with it's boring "cover-song-pop-idol theme, George Michael and his Shoot The Dog proves that it's still hope...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun track, 1 Aug 2002
Nice back-to-the-eighties feel with this one. An inventive use of Love Action from The Human League gives this a itchy dancing feel. This is George at his best "Disco Queen" incarnation. I don't even care about the lyrics or that it has a message. it is just a fun track to move your feet to.
