4.0 out of 5 stars Probably Jori Hulkkonen's best album so far, 21 Nov 2002
Jori Hulkkonen's "Different" offers mood orientated, quite timeless music and pictoresque soundscapes. Naturally there are some faster tracks on the album, but the atmosphere in general is pretty peaceful. The music is quite wistful, perhaps more mature and richer than on Jori's previous albums.
In spite of this (and the title "Different") there are still quite a few similarities with the previous albums, too. For instance "Abstract Living" compares quite well with "Back When We Was Attached" on "When No One Is Watching We Are Invisible".

There are five guests on the album. The three guest vocalists are Nick Triani (a British singer-songwriter/producer, who currently lives in Finland), Jerry Valuri (Jori's friend) and Tiga Sontag (the guy whom with Jori (a.k.a. Zyntherius) did the "Sunglasses At Night"- single). Aptly named "Latin Taiga" is a co-work with Tuomas Salmela and Sami Niemelä plays the guitar on "StrangeFaith".

The album works definitely best as a whole, although some tracks, such as "You're My Excuse For Being Me" (which is also my personal favourite on the album) work great on their own, too.
The only negative aspect on the album is maybe too hard beats on some tracks, covering the piano and the vocals a bit.
The cover booklet contains 14 photos (some of which are really good) taken by Jori Hulkkonen himself, so it's not only the music that you might want to get this album for.
Anyway, I'm quite sure that if you've liked Jori Hulkkonen's previous albums, you'll love this one.

If you like all things detroit then this album is for you.
This is one of the very few electronic albums that has soul!!
best listened to late at night with friends and wine.
