5.0 out of 5 stars A Butterfly to die for!, 19 Oct 2005
By Mr. David C. R. Cull (Northampton, Northants United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Well? Where does one start, or indeed finish, with a consummate performance such as the one here? The whole enterprise is just so enjoyable, passionate, thrilling and the sound is wonderfully evocative of the theatre...it was recorded in the Rome Opera House! An all Italian cast, with a conductor of French and Italian parentage, and English born and with opera in his bones........it all adds up to a wonderful CD. Scotto more than most catches the fragile girl in the first act, maturing to the abandonded mother in the last; Bergonzi's remorse in the last scene brings a lump to the throat. The supporting cast are all wonderful and the conducting of this amazing score is supreme.
If you do not have this in your collection, or are looking to buy a Butterfly for the first time, do not bother looking elsewhere! Buy it and enjoy for years to come!!
