5.0 out of 5 stars Rory's Best?, 19 Aug 2003
Footsteps and Heartbeats was the first of Rory's Albums that I heard - and it's still a real favourite. The wonderful "Love like a Rock" is quirky but upbeat, fun and the most immediately likeable. But the other tracks are rewarding too, but some can be shockingly un-western - you need to lean to like world-music a little to really appreciate them. But Rory is a wonderful big-hearted performer and multi-instrumentalist. He really can play the harmonica like that in a live performance (it's not a trick of the recording studio). I also like the way that his song-writing brings a cozy colloquial friendliness to the world. Rory has travelled extensively and brought the sounds and stories of Mexico and the Middle-East and Russia (etc...) back home to us. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album From A Cockney Harmonica Genius, 27 Feb 2001
By Mr. T. Walker - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Nobody can play the blues-harp like Rory MacLeod. I've tried to play some of the riffs he plays on this album unitl my lips have turned blue and I have finally come to the conclusion that he is the greatest harmonica player alive.

For the uninitiated, Rory MacLeod is a kind of Cockney Blues/Folk Bobby McFerrin.

This CD is a truly great collection of songs. From the uplifting almost gospel-like 'Love Like A rock' to the beautifully seductive 'Mariachi's Song'. To listen to this album is to gain an insight into the life of this extraordinary, modern day, travelling minstrel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Without doubt Rory's best!, 23 Jan 2001
By A Customer
Rory Mcleod has long been recognised as a truly great legend of folk music. Footsteps and Heartbeats tipifies his ecletic, raw style, giving the listner a magical insight into his musical journey around the globe. From the opening track, you will be amazed and mesmerized at Rory's talent and original slant on the world and people around him. For all the Rory McLeod fans out there - not to be missed!!!!

If you can listen to 'Love Like a Rock' and not feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and dance, don't bother buying this CD. Read more
