Product Description

Official PlayStation 2 Magazine

"A surprisingly approachable RPG... plenty of fun. 7/10."

Product Description

Legaia 2: Duel Saga begins in a small village called Nohl; the player assumes the role of Lang, a rookie member of the Nohl militia. The game includes features new to the RPG genre, including a unique battle system called the Tactical Arts system that allows players to enter a series of directional button inputs to call up special attack combos and manoeuvres. Tactical Arts attacks will be accompanied by dynamic camera angles to further enhance the effect. Players will also have access to Origins, which assists characters in fighting battles and solving puzzles. Each member of the adventure party will have a different Origin available to him or her. These can be used for battling enemies, healing injured party members, and destroying barriers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth The Wait!, 25 Oct 2002
By Helenreddjedet (Romford, Essex) - See all my reviews
After what seemed a gazillion years, the sequel to Legend of Legaia finally hit the shops and Marvellous Game Buying Life Partner was there ready to grab my copy. The wait was not in vain, Duel Saga is EVERYTHING an RPG should be. FFX it ain't, but then, what is? The tactical arts battle system has been vastly improved upon and you want to crank your volume knobs up damn high to gain full effect of the war cries.
There is simply so much to do, with mini games and quests galore. Overtones of Star Ocean Story and Suikoden II abound as you can customise and create your weapons, armour and accessories and even grow ingedients for your home made potions.
It's certainly not the easy romp through misty-land that Legend of Legaia was, but challenge after challenge after challenge, the difficulty level staying ever so slightly ahead of you to keep up your interest. Oh yes, and the Lyps are still here!! just a tad bigger....

Well worth every penny, I'd make this your next buy. And I'm NEVER wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars An unoffensive and easily playable game, 27 Jan 2003
By A Customer
Okay, so the first thing that will strike you about this game is that it isn't Final Fantasy X. But guess what? Not a lot of games are and Squaresoft do set the bar unusually high on account of them making quality games.
But this game has a lot going for it, it is easy to get into, easy to control, not too bad to look at and is a pretty standard RPG in terms of plot and character progression. With hidden areas and the ability to create weapons and armour etc. Of particular interest is the combat system, where a combination of arrows are put together to create moves allowing the gamer to learn powerful attacks early on in the game if they are willing to experiment. The characters themselves speak during combat to give a real sense of each of them.
On the whole a good buy for an RPG fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best of the Not Quite Best, 2 Feb 2005
By Marc Ruby "The Noh Hare™" (Warren, MI USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Duel Saga is the second game in the Legaia series, and probably the last, which is unfortunate. While unassuming and more than a little derivative of its bigger brothers (Final Fantasy, Suikoden, etc.), it manages to be a very entertaining game with few grievous faults and a lot to like. Sad to say, longer playing RPGs are viewed with an inordinately critical eye. With the result that playable games often get sentenced to the bargain heap ahead of their time.

Duel Sage is and upgraded version of the first Legends of Legaia. There are no Sera to go mad and overwhelm their human hosts, but there are Origin spirits that coexist with certain humans who are often subjected to mistrust and anger by the 'normal' folk. In this story, Avalon, the villain, is a host who was so mistreated that he has become determined to wipe humanity off the earth. Opposed to him are our heroes - young Lang the village guard, Maya the silent witch, Kazan the martial arts whiz, Sharon the pirate, and Ayne the mysterious giant.

Play is an adaptation of the first game's system, made a bit more complex. The Origins have more skills, you can make incredible weapons and armor out of what you find or win in battle. You can literally cook up spells, and even indulge in a bit of gambling and trading. Money remains an issue in this game, but there are some interesting ways to raise it instead of a couple of monotonous mini-games. Overall feel of the controls is better as well.

Play and storyline are fairly predictable, with enough twists to make this a genuine 60 to 80 hour game. Anyone who doesn't expect FFX-2 everytime they play a new game will find that, at this price, that game is a very good value. No, it isn't the best thing since sliced bread, but it's more than good enough.
