Fabulous piece of kit!, 11 Dec 2002
By A Customer
I have to say that the DV-350 is probably the best value piece of electronics that I have ever bought.Picture quality is superb, especially through RGB Scart - it is easily a match for most mid-range players, and for once the pseudo-surround system on a DVD player actually sounds quite good! I have had no problems at all playing either R1 or R2 DVDs (including RCE), VCDs, Audio CDs or MP3 CDs. Also, despite the fact that the specs say you need an NTSC compatible telly to watch R1, R1 NTSC DVDs play fine (and in colour) on my non-NTSC compatible TV when the DVD mode is set to PAL rather than AUTO. There is really very little to fault with this player. Build quality is excellent, and the remote is very user-friendly, if a little light. The on-screen GUI is also excellent. There are only a few quibbles I have with the player (and they are very minor). Firstly, there is only a single Scart (albeit RGB), so I had to get a switcher for my ancient telly (which also has only 1 Scart) so I can use my VCR. Secondly, there is no optical out, although the coax output sounds fine with my A/V receiver, and if you really want the optical you can just pay an extra £20 for the (otherwise identical) DV-454. The final issue I have with the player is that when playing MP3 CDs, only the first 8 characters of the track name are shown on the LCD. The only way to see the entire track name is by using the on-screen display, which means turning on the TV. Although this is very minor, it kind of annoys me as it would have been so easy to have the entire track name scrolling across the LCD. Aside from these minor issues, the Pioneer is a truly fantastic player, it is an absolute bargain. If you are looking for a low-budget DVD player, look no further.
