4.0 out of 5 stars
A wake-up call, 15 Aug 2003
I first heard this at a listening-post and within just a few minutes I was on my way out of the shop and it was in my bag. I know nothing whatever of the band, the artists or anything so I'm just going to describe the music, how it is. This is simply some of the best, funkiest, most infectiously brilliant music I've ever heard. It's basically jazz-funk-fusion with a very This-Is-The-Future feeling running under it. I admit that the first 3 tracks are the best, and after that the record's still excellent, but maybe not QUITE so excellent, hence only 4 stars. However, those 3 tracks really are all you need. If ever there was music guaranteed to wake you up on a cold morning, hung over, having had no sleep, this is it. If I'm late for work I just put this on the walkman and I'm there in no time. This really is good. When you first put it on it gives you that watcher-of-the-skies-when-the-first-star feeling. And for that alone, aside from any problems it may have (slightly pretentious vocals, incredibly pretentious titles, occasionally too electronically-oriented) it demands to be heard. If you've got ears, buy it. I defy you not to be tapping your foot in seconds.
