Made in 2001, 3000 Miles to Graceland is an action thriller with an all-star cast. Kevin Costner is the leader of an armed gang of robbers, all disguised as Elvis impersonators, evidently assuming that such garb will help them blend in discreetly in Las Vegas where they plan an Oceans Eleven-style heist. Among the other gang members are an under-used Christian Slater, Bokeem Woodbine and Kurt Russell (who once did play Elvis in a biopic), the most human and conscientious of this murderous bunch. When Costner double-crosses the gang, the film hares off in all directions across the mid-West, with Russell now accompanied by a resourceful white-trash Mom (Courteney Cox) and her bratty kid Jesse (David Kaye) as the film draws to a sensationally bloody denouement.

Unfortunately, writer/director Demian Lichstenstein, previously best known for his music videos, has no idea how to handle or pull off this project. There's too much dead time between the spectacularly, ridiculously violent heist and the climax. Despite a seemingly prestige cast, none of the characters really engage us, though Costner impresses a little as a psycho convinced he's Elvis' son. 3000 Miles to Graceland feels like an effort on the part of some of the ageing or has-been actors belatedly to grab some of the John Woo/Tarantino action. However, Woo has a balletic sense of on-screen violence, while Tarantino's characters always had something quirkily compelling about them. Neither quality is really present in this movie, hence its failure at the box office.

On the DVD: 3000 Miles to Graceland is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic format. Both the sound and visuals are immaculate, especially in the predictable explosion scenes. Extras include a trailer only and, frankly, that feels like more information than we need. --David Stubbs

This film is a rollercoaster of action and Elvis tributes, if you like the King you may be offended by some of the references, but it still has some quality Elvis tunes!
This film is action from the word go, and even though the middle of the film loses a bit of pace, the final half hour are enough to make up the deficit!
Costner is a breath of fresh air and plays a role very different to his normal 'hero' type casting, Russell is fantastic as normal and there are plenty of good small parts for other well known actors, the only minor gripe is Cox - in a role which is just Monica (from Friends) on acid.
The film may look like a Music video that lasts 2hrs - but its some ride! a great action flick for those who like it loud and colourful.
This film is not as violent as some people think (no where near as voilent as a John Woo film) but still some of the violence is senseless. Go watch this film..........Elvis has left the building!

For a start, I think this film was made purely for the lead charcters, Kurt Russell and Kevin Costner,to try something different without the prospect of ruining their future careers. The film is at best, entertaining and at worst pretty terrible, but if you can forget Kurt Russells lamentable performance, Courtney Cox living of her looks and a completley haywire and unbelievable plot and script, then you could well enjoy this film.

From first to last it is a strange mix of styles, from the king of unneccesary, gratuitous violence you would asscociate with a late night channel 5 film, to the lame attempts at romance by Cox and Russell. So far you may be wondering why I gave the film 3 stars if I thought it so bad? Well I'll now try to underline the good points of the film, and all though it is not overloaded with them there are a few. Firstly there is Kevin Costners finest piece of acting for a long while. In a lot of his other films, (dances with wolves and JFK spring to mind), the pure power and storyline of the films pull him along and you are left feeling that he was only there to fill in whilst you concentrated on the plot, in 3000 miles to Graceland he is forced to act in order to liven up the merely adaquate script. He is made to skip from his usuall morose boringness to scenes of sudden madness, from pure evil, to grieving friend, and he pulls it off surprisingly well. The supporting cast are only really there to add big names to the cast, with Slater and Woodbine massively underused.
From the completley random opening scene of two computer generated scorpions fighting, to the completley predictable 'happy ever after' ending, this film is strange, yet entertaining, and will entertain die hard fans of the violence and crime genre.

What can I say about this film apart from that it's great, I saw it in my local video store and thought i'd check it out and the one thing I was asking myself afterwards was: why didn't it have a cinema release as it was a totally awesome film. The Cast is excellent with the likes of Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell and Christian Slater, but what really makes this film is the plot aswell as the soundtrack.

The idea of using a huge icon such as Elvis and combining him with an action flick rocks and will leave Producers wondering why they didn't think of it first, with alot Elvis material used on the soundtrack aswell as the rising star Uncle Kracker, the songs are well suited to the pace of the scenes and this all makes this film stand out from other's like it such as Ocean's 11 which has the same sort of concept but could not pull it off as well as this wicked action flick. With alot of twists, turns aswell as some funny moments and the hot looking Courtney Cox this film will no doubt have you saying at the end: Thank you very much....

Overall though if your an action junkie and an Elvis fan this film is definately up your street but whatever the case give it a go at least.
