4.0 out of 5 stars Good, Not Great., 22 Nov 2002
By A Customer
If you've seen the movie or read the book then you'll know what to expect, flying cars, spells & potions and of course the chamber of secrets. I played this game on the GBA and its not very challenging, I was done within a few hours. Although not very difficult, and not really for real gamers, it was quite enjoyable and addictive. Once you start you don't want to put it down, it finishes far too soon. I would recomend it to all Potter fans, but warn them that it does leave some things out, and so is lacking slightly in the fun department.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty, but short-lived, 15 Sep 2003

(REAL NAME)
This game follows the plot of 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets', so if you've read the book and/or seen the film, you'll find it all quite straightforward - and it's not very difficult anyway.

As you progress through the game (and the story), you learn new spells and find hidden items like Bertie Botts beans and wizard cards. There are a number of little sub-games which have to be completed to progress through the story, but unfortunately these all tend to be of the same kind - mostly sneaking around corridors without getting caught by Prefects, Snape or Filch.
There's some Quidditch and broomstick flying involved, but the controls for this were rubbish and made these parts a bit of a chore to play.

The beginning of the game seems to be packed with subgames and things to interact with, but this really peters out and by halfway through the story, there's very little to do except watch the cut scenes to get to the end. Maybe the makers ran out of time, or just got bored with it. I think I finished it in about 4 hours - it's a nice looking/sounding game, but certainly no Zelda if you wants a few weeks of play out of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for the over-12s, 25 Nov 2003
By A Customer
This is exactly what all of the other reviewers said - too short, too easy and lacks depth. However, and I admit that since I am an adult who also likes the books I made the same mistake, this is not aimed at gamers - except for those who are pre-teen. As a game aimed at the children's market, it is far from perfect, but is a very playable game.

If you have a 9 or 10 year old who likes the books and/or films this would make a good Christmas present - just don't buy it for yourself if you are in your teens or older - even worse, DON'T BUY THIS AS A PRESENT FOR A TEENAGER.

It does have some problems with the controls etc, but not enough not to recommend it.
