Amazon.co.uk Review
The
Dancestar Awards 2002 promises to be the biggest dance ceremony ever, and to celebrate, the UK's dance establishment,
Ministry of Sound, have compiled a double CD of the top dance tunes from the past year. There's a good selection of mainstream hard house and trance from the likes of Ian Van Dahl ("Reason"), PPK ("Resurrection") and Matt Darey ("Beautiful") whose style has dominated commercial radio over the last 12 months. Established dance gods such as Fatboy Slim ("Weapon of Choice"), Basement Jaxx ("Where's Your Head At?") and Timo Maas ("To Get Down") bring their dance-rock crossovers to the party along with a smattering of lightweight UK-garage from So Solid, Daniel Bedingfield, Mis-Teeq and Liberty X.
Dancestar 2002 isn't a collection of undiscovered gems (in fact it couldn't be further from it) but with the genre on the up, there's an opening for what will replace the budget pop compilation, and mainstream dance anthems have got what it takes. --
