4.0 out of 5 stars Good single, great B-side, 7 Jun 2006
By M. Hunkin "stoogesfan29" (Birmingham) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Stop Crying Your Heart Out, the second and best single from the fifth Oasis album, Heathen Chemistry, marked something of a return to form. A heartfelt, anthemic, piano-led ballad, although not as good as Cast No Shadow, Slide Away or The Masterplan, it packed something of an emotional punch and is well worth a listen.

The first B-side is a fine, upbeat rock'n'roller, nothing to shout about but not bad, but the second flip track, Shout It Out Loud, is by far one of the finest and most underrated tunes Noel Gallagher has ever penned and sung, with a piercing, wailing guitar solo reminiscent of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb.

With Oasis in 2002 back to making B-sides that are better than the singles they supported, you have to conclude that they found something of the old spirit again!

4.0 out of 5 stars No Need To Cry, 18 Jun 2002
By NOEL GALLAGHER "topofthepops" (Clermont, FL, United States) - See all my reviews
Oasis second single from their forthcoming LP "Heathen Chemistry" is a true gem. While the first single, "The Hindu Times", was a great pure rock track, Oasis have followed it just two months later with a classic, anthemic ballad reminiscent of their "Morning Glory" days. "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" is one of Noel Gallagher's greatest ballads. Filled with a haunting piano melody, a soaring string section, and a chorus that you just can't get out of your head, this is a fine piece of work by the elder Gallagher. The lyric, "Take what you need and be on your way, and stop cying your heart out" sums up the positive message this song is trying to convey. Overall, the song is brilliantly effective, despite its sounding similar to 1994's "Slide Away".

The b-side "Thank You For The Good Times", written by bassist Andy Bell, is a catchy tune worthy of album status. Unfortunately, however, the second b-side, "Shout It Out Loud", is not one of Noel's best compostions. Although it does have some profound lyrics, the tune itself isn't very melodic and never seems to go anywhere. Then again, maybe I just expect too much from The Chief. After all, every song he writes can't have both great lyrics AND a catchy melody.

Overall, this single should be a chart topper if "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back In Anger" are any indication of how well-received Oasis ballads are. This one's a classic, plain and simple.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Look Back In Anger Mk II!, 2 Jun 2002
"Stop Crying Your Heart Out" is the brilliant new single from Oasis. It harks back to the glory days of Don't Look Back In Anger and Wonderwall, with an incredibly catchy chorus line. It features some of Noel Gallagher's better lyrics, with lines such as "we're all of us stars, we're fading away", and the chilling effect of Liam singing "why you scared?", with Noel's backing vocals replying with "I'm not scared...". Hopefully this will be the single that gets Oasis noticed again by the non-"Mad Fer It" public. Plus the fact that it's released just when England go out of the World Cup......
