Product Description

CD Description
While Danzig's sophomore effort from 1990, DANZIG II: LUCIFUGE, wasn't exactly as strong as the band's self-titled debut, it still managed to contain several standout tracks that remain among Danzig's all-time best. While the debut wasn't an immediate hit upon release, it succeeded in attracting a wider metal following (Glenn Danzig's previous bands specialised in punk) and establishing the band as one of hard rock's most promising new acts. DANZIG II also took more chances musically than its predecessor--while the majority of the album is rock-based, other styles are touched upon that were previously unexplored by the band.
"Her Black Wings" remains one of Danzig's most evil-sounding compositions (especially its sinister guitar riff), and became a popular video on MTV's Headbanger's Ball program. Also included is the explosive album (and subsequent concert) opener, "Long Way Back From Hell", as well as such other rockers as "Snakes of Christ" and "Tired of Being Alive". But the biggest surprises on DANZIG II: LUCIFUGE are undoubtedly the tender, Elvis Presley-sounding composition "Blood and Tears" and the semi-ballad "Devil's Plaything".

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucifuge: The formula for a classic rock album!, 10 Jul 2004
With Danzig's first album release, most believed the band were only capable of playing hard rock and roll, yet with their second release in Lucifuge Danzig adapted more of a blues rock sound to their music. In doing so I believe the band broadend their musical talents and limits and enabled the band members with the chance to play a more comfortable style of music to their liking. Danzig's vocals work better with the overall flow of music and this further increased Danzig's status as one of the most essential rock bands in America.

Lucifuge continues with the same dark edge of music this band adapted in their classic debut album, though this time contains much slower musicallly talented songs such as the dark Killer wolf(one of danzigs greatest vocal songs), and the classic Evil Elvis ballad that is Blood and Tears. As Proven in the 50's rock and roll style "Long way back from Hell" and the metal style "Tired of being Alive" Danzigs voice could not be more perfectly suited to this album if he tried. I play this album almost everyday as I believe I do not own a greater album than Lucifuge at this point in time. Perhaps the main reason for this is that no other band has ever been able to match the musical talent and strenghth shown in Danzig's albums since the original Misfits.

Glenn's vocals are supported perfectly with the exeptional talent of guitarist John Christ, the smooth, bouncy basslines from the legend that is Eerie Von, and the pacy drumlines provided by who i believe to be the greatest rock drummer of all time, Chuck Biscuits. The pure raw talent of Lucifuge has not yet been matched by any other rock band since it's eagerly awaited release in 1990. There is not one single filler track that can be found in this perfect album. It's talented music matched with the equally classic vocals from the great Glenn Danzig in all his pure, howling, vocal glory.

4.0 out of 5 stars 'do you want to take a life,do you want to cross that line', 19 Dec 2006

Glenn danzig, once glorious leader of one of the greatest bands of all time in the misfits, found it all too much and formed his own band called danzig and this lucifuge is their second album and saw light of day in 1990 and the results are brilliant, but dont go thinking that this is the misfits mark two,its pretty diverse and that deserves praise.
Glenn Danzigs heros as a youngster included the doors and elvis, hence the nickname evil elvis and both of these influences are evident here in small portions.Danzig also write songs that last 4 minutes or so as opposed to the misfits short, sharp blasts so you get a fuller and more conventional song structure here and glenns vocals are more expressive here,he truly has a very broad and powerful range of vocals,oh yeah i didnt mention that the album also rocks in a more metal style at times as opposed to the punk of the misfits but there is also a mixture of blues, rock and roll and country but all with glenns dark words haunting throughout.
The album starts with 'long way back from hell' and the intentions are clear that this is gonna be a classic, and this is backed up with 'snakes of christ','killer wolf' and the misfits like anthem 'tired of being alive'.'im the one' follows and this is elvis-esque but has the classic line 'so if you want to hear evil, come a little bit close'.'Her black wings' follows and is a stomping, sleazy riff fest, filled with ooohs and aahs that the misfits would have been proud of,'devils plaything' is pure doors with danzig throwing a great jim morrison style of singing, very catchy indeed.
The remaining songs all offer varying styles but the common bond is that they are all solid and that can be applied to the entire album, brilliant indeed.
