16 tracks of absolutely the best New Flamenco both in terms of rhythms and melodic material used-this collection is based on
tracks from the more recent releases on the Manteca label and centers around the stunning and passionately sharp flamenco guitars of Juan Suarez "Paquete" and the Carmona brothers. The range and selection of music is superb and covers a wide range (and also good depth) from almost classic flamenco singing to Salsa, Samba, Blues and fusion rock. Most tunes are eminently danceable-take any 3 tracks and you have party: try the last 3 and you get music from marimba, kora, rock guitar, flute and Arab sources plus a full penja session. You will find many of today's biggest names in New Flamenco (such as Ketama, Duquende, E. Moriente and Tomatito amongst others)all beautifully arranged on a single disc: An absolute must for those who like flamenco anthologies and a complilation that will remain a benchmark for years to come. And last not least it serves as a clear indication of the enormous development and branching out of New Flamenco into other styles of music.

If (like me) you're a fan of Ottmar Liebert, Paco Pena, and other "neo flamenco" artists who play with great passion and also great melody, this disc will probably dissapoint you. It's somewhat traditional but too jazz-like, with aimless tunes, bland arrangements, and no groove.
