Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The London based club night, The Sonic Mook Experiment, has become renowned as central to the musical eclecticism that has swept the indie heartland. With Sonic Mook Experiment Vol 2, forget the narrow schmindie-anthemed discos of the mid-90s, from the very start Sean Mclusky's nights set out to challenge their audience's notions about clubbing. With their blend of dance, electronica and rock they did just that, spawning many imitators across the capital.

The Sonic Mook Experiment Vol 2 is a great introduction to the new batch of bands and artists that have been making waves not just in and around London but all over. Current darlings Yeah Yeah Yeahs turn up with the anthem from their eponymous EP, while the Hives and McLusky are also some of the obvious choices here; the calibre of the tracks chosen more than justify their appearance. With a more confrontational mix than its predecessor, Vol 2 focuses on darker elements from punk, hardcore dance and electronic/synthpop. Watch out for the debut from the promisingly sexy Some Product or the gentle, clinical "I Want To Be President" (Electrelane), and beware of the frankly disturbing techno courtesy of Joan of Ass. --Caroline Butler

4.0 out of 5 stars At last a decent compilation, 5 Aug 2002
By Ali Bell (Wirral) - See all my reviews
A fantastic mix of garage punk, electoclash and a hint of wierd stuff. Its not the easiest listen in the world but is made worth it by fantastic tracks from Mcklusky and Chicano. The sound is of the current breeds of energetic garage rock bands while not including any of the familliar names (excluding the Hives) But after a few listens you will wonder why some of the bands havent made it big yet. Lively, Energetic and a bit wierd. I love it.
