got this last year..., 16 Jan 2005
but it sounds like it should have been released this year! electronic genius at its best! whether he's rincin out early 90's jungle sound or pounding out the tech, Tadd sure knows how to get batty shakin! but its in his Dabrye guise where his talent shines and this, my 2nd taste of the minimal Detroit ridden hip hop style that I enjoy form Perfuse 73. is the work of a true craftsmanIf you have enjoy the German click house sound from people like Akufen, then this is the after club lounge click. warm analogues ride with heavy hip-hop bounce and intricately distributed percussion throughout. no problem giving the 5 stars here and its much easier to get hold of then the second album, Instrmntl (heard one track, Prospects (marshall law) and its dope!) just hungry for more!!

Disappointed..a bit.. but.., 25 Jan 2004
Stylish sophisticated minimal beats, the music sounds like the cover looks.. but ultimately a bit boring with style overshadowing content. The production is super slick & high quality- but too many of the tracks dont stand up strong enough in their own right. The opening track 'The Lish' is one of the strongest- blending clean minimal techno sounds with a dare i say 'trip hop' bass (yeah i know- cliches- but you all know what i mean), with a jazzy clarinet or sax (or something), over the top giving a breezy chilled classy & original sound. There is a feel to the rest of the album of minimal technoishness, sort of bleepy circa 91Forgemasters and NOWAX, in theat hypnotic groove way, although the overall effect is NOT techno but more hip hop. The whole album chuggs away at a fairly slow chilled pace, groovy with cheeky effects and a few bouncy unpredictable basslines AT BEST. The Lish, With A Professional, Truffle & Shuffle & So Scientific especially, have the most interesting effects-- cheeky bass - spacey bleeps- and sci fi sound effects , but the rest suffers from being hypnotic & repetitive without groove. Not for partying too, but at the same time to irritating to chill to.. the fear is 'background fodder'.. it is however an interesting fusion of styles with loads of potential. If you like the 'glitchy' hip hop side of things, id reccomend Prefuse73s 'One Word Extinguisher' instead, Dabrye did collaborate on that album too- fusing hip hop with leftfild programming and electronic sounds, or if you prefer the old minimal slow techno feel, id go for LFOs Low Frequency Oscillation (1st album 1991)- its a flippin gem, got all the style and minimilasm with loads a groove. Infact get both theyre both winners..

Break ya neck, 27 Mar 2004
Unlike the other reviewer, who did a nice job, i dont normally compare this to techno, minimal or otherwise. For me Dabrye One/Three is pure distilled hiphop, the best hiphop beats i have ever heard alongside prefuse73. The main difference being the absence of a shitload of samples. For me the album is exceptionally good, cant get enough of it, only track 6 is of less than sublime quality
