Very few pianists can match Richter's dazzling virtuosity and lavishing tonal colours he captures in Schumann's solo piano music. I like the lack of sentimentality in the way Richter plays Schumann, striving to achieve something more than emotional, something transcendent.

If you like Schumann's piano music, Richter and Rubinstein's renditions of Fantasie in C and Carnaval are must-have.

Strange tht no-one has reviewed this. Richter's best work was always characterised by a sense of concentration that draws you in and yet a freedom. These are great performances.
