Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Eidos' stylish, strategic and almost puzzle-like Hitman 2 makes its console debut, managing to address many of the criticisms that haunted the PC original while still falling short of its potential. The premise sets up the player as a genetically modified hit man, forced out of retirement when things get a little personal. Each level then sets up an overall mission, broken down into sub-objectives, thankfully with a much-requested save-game feature included in case things get a little hairy. This isn't your standard walk-and-shoot kind of game, though; Hitman 2 rewards planning, and lots of it. While there's no fixed linear route through any of the levels, each will require a lot of thought to be defeated.

What limits the game's potential though is the continual stream of frustrations. The enemy's artificial intelligence, for instance, is sometimes very sadly lacking, and there are occasions when the pace drops to snail-like speed, without always generating sufficient tension to carry the player through. That said, when it hits top gear Hitman 2 can be tense, atmospheric and enjoyable. Graphically it's very polished, and those who enjoy games that reward solid thinking more than an itchy trigger finger will certainly find something to enjoy. But while undoubtedly a step forward from its predecessor, it's an ambitious game that still falls short of what could have been. Put simply, it's good, it's challenging, but it still leaves quite a lot of room for improvement. --Jon Foster

Official PlayStation 2 Magazine
"If you're the kind of steely soul untroubled by sentiment, Hitman 2 is a stone-cold killer. 9/10."

5.0 out of 5 stars No women no children, 7 Oct 2002
First things first, this game is class! Fans of MGS and Tenchu will love it.

The story starts with the main character '47' a retired hitman living in a monastery, but he is soon back to work when the resident priest is kidnapped. After a couple of video sequences you are given your task via a laptop computer, mission objective map and the target photo, then off to work you go

On first playing this game I found it extremely difficult. But after a few goes you start working out the best way to take out your target. There is two ways to play the game, use stealth or go in gun-oh and blast everyone you see( The latter normally ends up in your own death) . It is possible on most levels to make the hit with out been seen or harming anyone else, which you'll find very rewarding. There is a great variety of weapons and the levels are huge and well detailed. This game is the closest you're going to get of becoming a profession hitman.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated, almost unknown..., 25 Jul 2004
By Snake (Norway) - See all my reviews
I happened to buy Splinter Cell and Hitman 2 at the same time. Splinter Cell because it's, well, the stealth game that was most popular at that time. I had not played any of the hitman games and knew little about it. But anyway one of my friends convinced me to buy that one too. And what a game! The levels on Splinter Cell all looks the same and you go bored after a few hours, but with Hitman the same level can be completed in many different ways. As an example the first mission can be completed in at least four completely different ways, meaning you will go through different areas of the level.

By all means Splinter Cell is quite good. But Hitman 2 was much more my kind of game. You take control of an retired hitman which is forced back in business by some old enemies. Many missions can be done the traditional way with a sniper rifle, but sometimes the target is inside a building. You need to go in there and take care of business close up, maybe with a fiber wire, or with poison, or a scalpell, or a fire axe.... You can disguise yourself as almost any one you kill, but to get the silent assassin rating on the level you must complete the mission without harming anyone else than the target!

I dont think I have been impressed so much by a game I knew so little about since the first time I played Doom.(Yes, I didn't know anything about Doom before I played it, and this was in 1994!)

Main point: I have completed Hitman 2 several times, but I have barely completed Splinter Cell. And Splinter Cell is quite a game according to everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars an adult gamers dream!, 15 Oct 2002

Stealth, brain, brawn and skill, these are all essentials when playing Hitman 2. From the moment it loads up and the cinema like intro starts you know you are in for something a little special. Guns blazing or waiting for the right time to make the hit, its your choice and each time you make that hit, the satisfaction cannot be beaten and just makes you want to do it again, only this time better.....
This game has it all, great graphics, superb atmosphere, massive levels, this is a game that will remain in my ps2 for a long time to come.
