Synopsis

Longtime sweethearts David (Woody Harrelson), an architect, and Diana (Demi Moore), a real estate agent, find themselves on hard times when financial troubles bring them to the verge of losing their house, which David designed. Taking their last $5,000, they go to Vegas in hopes of multiplying their money. Luck fails them, but they are faced with a major moral dilemma when billionaire John Gage (Robert Redford) spots Diana in the casino and offers her $1,000,000 to spend the night with him. What ensues causes them to question their relationship more than anything they've ever encountered. Based on the novel by Jack Engelhard.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than decent film!!!!, 26 Dec 2008
By A. Lalor "IloveRichardArmitage" (Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
What would you do if you and your partner, who you loved dearly were in some financial difficulty and in order to alleviate your difficult circumstances a stranger offered you one million for one night with you? What would you and your partner do? Would you immediately dismiss the proposal, regarding it as preposterous? Would you accept basing your argument on it being only a one-night stand and therefore meaningless? Would you do it for the much-needed money? Or would you refuse saying that money cannot buy love and that such an act would reduce you to the likes of a prostitute?

Confused? Well that is exactly the complex story this film weaves excellently. With a thought-provoking script that manages to challenge our every day perceptions of love and money and the depths we'd go to achieve them, along with some seriously moving moments guaranteed to shed a few tears from the female members of the audience and even managing to throw in a few comic moments this film is something special.

Add that to some superb acting from the small but talented cast and you're in for a treat. One can easily empathise with all three characters from the lonely billionaire (Robert Redfort), who believes he can buy love, to the loved-up couple (Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore) who believe that they are untouchable and that their actions won't effect their "perfect" relatonship.

Beautiful cinematography, memorable music and careful editing make this a very crafty movie.

I'd highly recommend this movie for anyone looking for a mature, deep movie (something hard to find now-a-days)

5.0 out of 5 stars superb, 26 April 2008
i havent cried so much since 'bridges of madison county', it really got to me this film, it was brilliantly acted and i could see the scenario, not so much the one night thing, but the aftermath being experienced in modern day society. How the characters changed and started to interact less with each other really upset me, You have to watch this film!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliantly well rounded film, 27 Jun 2001
I had my doubts about this one, as it is a love film, and I tend to steer away from em (being a bloke, ha ha). But it mixes comedy in with a good cast as well as a good script. Demi Moore is as sexy as ever and the film does touch you (yes I'll admit). I'd recommend this film to anybody.
