Even the monsters fear the evil that has returned. Treasures beyond imagination await the warrior bold enough to attempt the journey, strong enough to face the minions of death, and wise enough to follow the path that leads to the essence of light. You must use your sword arm well to rid the land of a potent curse. But be aware that should the sword fail, you have the magical arts to serve you in your quest. Learn the proper time and place for each or you too shall be counted amongst those lost forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Game!, 11 May 2003
By Kate (dorset United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I couldn't find any reviews for this game so bought it on the seller's advice and.....it's superb in a Doom perspective - huge game with many varied areas, loads of different weapons and armour, magic too, the music isn't as annoying as many games out there and there are naff all cheats for it out in web-land so it's a great challenge oh and it loads really quick, which is nice - only 2 moans about it - it can get VERY dark and tricky in places like dungeons, and is a tad slow at turning otherwise no complaints for me... Had it a week and still engrossed - great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars King's Field IV, 31 Mar 2005

This is one of my favourite PS2 rpgs (the other being Shadow Hearts). I liked the slow pace and the first person perspective. I loved the music and the realistic way battles occur without a screen shattering or battle music playing. Once you have the hang of the strategy - engage, strike, retreat and repeat (also using strafe when needed) the game becomes just right in terms of difficulty. The storyline was a bit sparse and the ending rather difficult (although I could have used a different strategy with the final boss to make it easier). I will definitely play this game again. Not for everyone, though - my 14 year old son loathed it so much he didn't even give it a go!

5.0 out of 5 stars Atmospheric, huge and graphically splendid!, 15 Feb 2005
By M. Cockburn (UK) - See all my reviews

I've had this game for a few weeks now and clocked up over 10 hours saved gameplay so far - plus replay time for the bits where I got killed. Having peeked at a walkthrough it seems I'm not even a third of the way through it - it's immense! The graphics are stunning, including the rendering of the vast array of monsters. Already I've battled skeletons that sprout up out of graves in front of you, zombies that spew poisonous green gruel, and fire breathing wyverns circing in huge underground caves, to name but a few. The lighting, sound effects and music make for a great atmosphere. It has a real "dungeons and dragons" feel.

The only negatives I can come up with are the slow turning motions of the first person viewpoint and the NPCs in the game which are lacking in graphical detail and there is no speech, only subtitles. With a game this good in every other aspect though, I soon forgot about those little annoyances.

Fantastic! Please bring us more of the same.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Slugish RPG Game
This game is horrible.

Slow sluggish gameplay, with long boring interludes.
A complete nightmare.
