Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Tr3s Lunas, eh? Ever wondered what it must be like to live on a strange faraway planet orbited by three moons? Thought not. However, this is the very same question asked (and answered) by the dependably adaptable and not-mad-really multi-instrumentalist Mike Oldfield on the title track of this, his 22nd album. This kind of New Age mumbo-jumbo not withstanding, Tr3s Lunas is a perfectly pleasant record. Conceived at a favourite restaurant during a recuperative sojourn in the haste-sapping sunshine of Ibiza, Tr3s Lunas is Oldfield's self-confessed "chill out" album.

Given the it's unhurried pace, emphasis on creamy guitar lines and shimmering atmospherics together with--thematically speaking--some contented personal reflections on the joys of a non-materalistic lifestyle, it couldn't be any more "chilled out" if it came with an advisory sticker cautioning against listening to it whilst operating machinery.

Not a man much given to the daily hurly-burly and cut-and-thrust of today's shop-'til-you-drop society, Oldfield prefers his own company, be it wandering alone in a desert (on the Spanish flavoured "No Man's Land") or browsing the tombstones in Venetian graveyards ("Daydream") whilst the beauty of horses, insects and turtles are similarly addressed in an atmosphere of tranquil instrumental wonderment. The interactive element of the CD, namely "MusicVR Tr3s Lunas Game", is billed as a "non-violent" musical adventure through deserts and cities, meeting cats, dolphins and scorpions along the way. Bloodlusting, Playstation-fingering thrill-seekers may find its pleasantness hugely off-putting. --Kevin Maidment

CD Description
'Tres Lunas' is the first episode of Mike Oldfield's 'MusicVR' computer game project. This album is essentially the soundtrack to the game, and it includes vocals by Sally Oldfield and drum programming by Philip Lewis. A CD-Rom is includedwhich offers a demo of the game, and a link to Oldfield's official website where the full program can be found.

5.0 out of 5 stars The return of the best Mike Oldfield, 6 Jun 2002
By A Customer
A pity that the UK has to wait until the 1st of July for hearing Tres Lunas, here in Spain is avaliable since the 3rd of June.
Mike Oldfield strikes back with a Double CD. A Music CD and a CD developed during the last 2 years with the virtual game MusicVR for PC . This record is a must, and Mike Oldfield returns with new tracks, each one with symphonic and melodic music. Two instruments are the main characters on the record, the electric guitars, and the piano, very used on the CD, plus the sax-guitar, a guitar which sounds like a saxophon. The record includes To Be Free, a quality song, even without it the record will be a must. If you liked Tubular Bells II (1992), The Songs Of Distant Earth (1994) or Guitars (1999), or you are interested on Mike Oldfield's career, this record will not disappoint you. The composition and the musicality have a high quality and return us the most inspirated Oldfield.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uses previous work as a backdrop for excellent new Album, 8 Jun 2002
A wonderful return by Mike. The music is, as expected, relaxing & thoughtful, yet exciting and identifiable as Mike Oldfield.

A major step into the new millennium for this great artist, yet using his previous work as a base from which to progress and expand.

The audio CD comes with a second CD that contains a PC 'game', which is frankly a let down, especially as it costs as much as the CD to unlock the full version. However this should not detract from the music which is excellent.

I would firmly recommend all fans of Mike Oldfield to buy this CD, there are hints of his other work scattered throughout all the tracks, yet each stands in it's own right as an enjoyable musical experience.

One to put on, turn out the lights and relax to!

3.0 out of 5 stars Hello Houston Mike has a problem......, 3 May 2007
By Mr. J. Hulme (uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Mike Oldfield is threading water with this. Waiting for an idea, even the more listenable track Landfall: is shoddy to his normal high standard of music.

To be free: sounds like a left over from The Millennium Bell.
Firefly: has no interesting thing about it, pass me that swotter.
TresLunas: Second rate tune that goes nowhere. The odd whisper doesn't help.
Daydream: is it a Les Dawson inspired tune?

And these are just some of the joys awaiting you. Luckily I waited for a sale before I purchased this, still expensive for what it is. Why 3 stars, because it's Mike Oldfield and even if it is something not that special by the master, it is better then the average ok album. I will play it from time to time to see if my opinion changes?

Word of advice Mike, keep out of the sun more.
