Product Description

Product Description

The Toshiba V852UK is an attractive and well-specified video cassette recorder. It comes with a range of recording options to simplify programming. VideoPlus Deluxe puts an end to recording confusion. It makes it easy to record TV programmes, using short numerical codes (plus codes) shown in TV listings pages to tell the video recorder when to start and stop recording. Up to six programmes can be recorded from six different channels (terrestrial, cable or satellite) without having to switch channels manually. VideoPlus Deluxe also controls selected brands of analogue, cable and satellite set-top boxes as well as normal, terrestrial TV. Selected ONdigital and Sky Digital set-top boxes may also be controlled. The PDC (Programme Delivery Control) feature means you receive signals transmitted directly from TV stations making for accurate recordings even if listed viewing times change. The video will only record when the programme starts, even if times have changed. Many TV stations now offer this service. On-screen programming allows manual programming for setting the timer if you don't have VideoPlus codes on hand. OneTouch Record and a 6-event timer are also available.

Using the Toshiba V852UK is as easy as programming it. Features such as 60-second rewind (E180), Front A/V inputs, rear audio output, index search, NexTView Link and Icon on-screen display make it easy to set up and use. Auto Set-Up automatically tunes in all channels in the correct order on TVs and video recorders (BBC 1 on Channel 1 etc.) and suggests solutions to common problems, such as "Check aerial is connected". Auto Clock Checking automatically sets the date and time on video recorders and checks it daily at 8am. It also automatically corrects for British Summer Time or after a power cut. A jog/shuttle dial makes moving around positions on your tapes a breeze. Other features useful for those interested in editing include a 3.5 mm microphone jack and audio dubbing. The recorder has two SCART connectors--the 21-pin universal connecting cable socket system used for audio/video components in Europe, to transmit RGB, composite video, S-VHS, mono and stereo sound.

The playback on the Toshiba V852UK is excellent. With digital audio tracking, plus an automatic head cleaner, it provides sharp high-quality recordings time after time. Playback features include slow motion, still picture and frame advance, plus NTSC playback on a PAL TV.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jam-packed with genuinely useful features!, 23 Sep 2002
I bought this VCR as a replacement for my seven-year old death-bed Aiwa and wanted something with at least as many features as the old player. I certainly wasn't disappointed with the V852. It has an elegant minimal look to it, as all the features can be accessed from the remote, and doesn't look at all out of place next to my slimline DVD player.

The features on this machine have all proved to be really, genuinely, every-day useful. The NexTView facility means you record the channel you are viewing on your TV (if the TV also has this feature) when you hit record buttons - very useful. Programing is a breeze, especially if you have the VideoPlus codes to hand, and the PDC facility means you won't miss an ending if the program over-runs.

The jog-shuttle dial (on the unit and the remote) means you can easily navigate around tapes and, if you are looking for the start of a previous recording, the Index feature will take care of the searching for you.

The picture and audio quality is excellent from pre-recorded tapes, although some manual intervention has been required for the tracking on tapes recorded on my previous machine.

My only slight criticism is the remote. Too many of those useful features are to be found on small, closely grouped buttons, whilst the jog/shuttle dial is a little large and makes for two-handed operation.

All in all, however, I am very pleased with this VCR and two months into using it, I would certainly buy the same machine over again.
