The insurrectionary implosion of rock in the last 12 months has vomited some frenzied come-and-get-it rock and roll, but The Hives have exploded in particularly emphatic style in recent weeks.

An irresistible barrage of attitude, adrenalin, swaggering, snaking rock and the best thing to come out of Sweden since Bjorn Borg, The Hives also have a crucial extra string to their locked-on to bullseye bow.

Entertainment is forever forgotten amidst the studious, deep conscience of 21st century guitar music, as the woes of life are dourly regurgitated by hordes of dribbling emotional corpses. Not this time.

And with names like Howlin' Pelle, Chris Dangerous, Nicholaus Arson, Vigelante Carlstroem and Matt Destruction and a style as sharp as a piranha teeth toothbrush, The Hives probably are your new favourite band. And this is probably the single of the year.
