Wow - a Formby CD without a mention of "Windows", "Lamp Post" or "Chinese Laundry Blues" - unheard of in recent years.
The track listing is impressive, ranging from the slightly rare (Mad March Hare, In My Little Snapshot Album) to the very rare (V Sign Song) - 26 songs in total.
The quality ranges from good to very good with most being in the latter - not bad considering the most recent recordings are from 1951.
So why only 4 out of 5?
For some reason best known to themselves, the producers of this otherwise superb CD have trimmed the last track, "Zip Goes A Million" down from a usual running time of 2 minutes 50 seconds to a mere 1 minute, cutting out the middle sector (Running Away To Land) and the ending!!!
Why have they done this, when considering the contents, it's obviously aimed at the more discerning fan who would appreciate the rarer tracks.
As I say, this is my only gripe with this otherwise excellent release.
Now come on, let's see a CD release of the other rareties including George's pre-uke 'Winner' recordings of 1926 - some hope!!!
