3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, but not brilliant, 12 May 2002
By A Customer
When buying this DVD I thought it would be a step by step guide to learning Wing Chun. Unfortunately it isn't; it shows a lot of forms and techniques that could be copied by watching then rewinding but would take much longer, and has no teaching points or tips. There are no extras (except for written details about how to contact them) but there is scene selection, the presentation of the DVD isn't great either; the cover looks cheap and there is a black and white photo-copied booklet inside.

Apart from underexpectation Austin Goh is an amazing martial artist and the spear breaking he does is unbelieveable (did I mention he does it with his throught)! There are also outakes at the end, which are quite reminisant of Jackie Chan.
Along with this there is also part of tye DVD dedicated to the history of China and Wing Chun.

Not a great DVD if you want to learn Wing Chun, but brilliant if you're interested in this type of kung fu.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiration from a master, 18 May 2002
By A Customer
This is a highly inspirational wing chun tutorial. Master Goh shows all the forms of wing chun (3 main forms, 2 weapon forms and the wooden dummy) performed with precision, focus, speed, power, and his own artistic expression.

The rough and ready presentation isn't perfect but the material inside more than makes up for it.

Unless you are studying under Master Goh there will be differences in the forms which you are learning, but the basics should not be too different.

You certainly won't learn wing chun from this DVD but it may inspire you to join a club; if on the other hand you have a few years under your belt you will benefit from the ability to see the forms done by a master as many times as you want (at most clubs watching the chief instructor perform one of the forms is a rare treat).

All in all - a worthwile addition to any wing chun practioner's library - instant inspiration, you will pick up new things and sharpen up, or a good inside look at a proven martial art for those considering which style to devote their time to.

The brick and spear breaking at the end is very impressive but it's not really why I would recommend buying this DVD, it's more bonus material.
