5.0 out of 5 stars Exemplary playing from an exemplary organist, 30 Jul 2006
By J. Hutchings "jjhutchings" (Framlingham, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Andrew Lumsden is, quite rightly, one of great cathedral organists - he somehow manages to combine excellent choral direction with superb organ playing. The Lichfield organ sounds as fine as it ever has done, and Regent have captured the instrument superbly.

A must for organ fans.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh Dear., 13 Mar 2006
By Mr. J. G. Robertson (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Following with Volume 3 in these rather good Organ compilations for Regent comes well known organist and choirmaster Andrew Lumsden at the organ of Lichfield Cathedral. The Programme is fixed firmly in the 20th century which is a pity when condidering the marketing tact(Best of,compilation) would be to surely include organ giants such as Bach or Duruffle. While Lumsden's playing is technically good he seems to lose emotion with this 'broken glass music'.The Sonata Heroica by jongen is a very dry composition which unfortunatly makes Lumsden's wooden playing dig a deeper hole.Let's hope Vol 4 is better.
