4.0 out of 5 stars WILLIAM TELL...IN IT AS IT IS, 27 May 2002
By A Customer
BLACKALICIOUS RETURN TO OUR TURNTABLES WITH A FINE ENSAMBLE THAT IS BLAZING ARROW. DISTINCLY DIFFERENT FROM THEIR 2000 RELEASE NIA.BLAZING ARROW FINDS CHIEF XCEL AND GIFT OF GAB PLAYING THE ROLES OF AMBASADORS TO THE WIDER CAUSE OF CONCIOUS HIP HOP, UNITING AN IMPRESIVE IF NOT DIVEARCE ENSAMBLE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR SECOND LP.
AMONG THE ROUGES GALLERY ON DISPLAY ARE TWO OF THE L.A UNDERGROUND SCENE'S MOST TREASURED POSSESIONS, JURASSIC 5 AND THE EXPANSION TEAM THEMSELVES, THE DILATED PEOPLES. BOTH BANDS PARTICIPATION (ON TRACKS 4000 MILES AND PASSION RESPECTFULLY) ARE COHERENT IF NOT RATHER RESERVED WITH EITHER GROUP WANTING TO STEAL THE BLAZING ARROWS FIRE.
LIVE INSTRUMENTATION FROM NUMEROUS SOURCES BRINGS A TIGHTER FEEL TO THE FLOW OF THE ALBUM WITH CHIEF XCEL BRINGING ON THE COMPETENT RHYTHM HANDLINGS OF ?UESTLOVE OF THE ROOTS, MONEY MARK,(LONG TIME COLLABORATOR) HARLEY WHITE AND OZOMATLI INTO ALL TRACKS.ALTHOUGH USED IN MUCH OF THE ALBUMS SKITS THESE FINE MUSICIANS (UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE BEASTIE BOYS PRODUCER MARIO C)UNITE EACH TRACK WHICH IN THEMSELVES ARE AN ECCLECTIC MIX.
CONTINUATION OF THE LAST ALBUM IS SEEN WITH J5'S CUT CHEMIST BUILDING ON THE GROUND BREAKING
A TO G TRACK FROM NIA. WITH CHEMICAL CALISTHETICS AN UNCOMPROMISING BATTLE OF BLOOD AND BEATS ENSUES AS THE CHEMIST AND GAB DEPLOY EVERY TRICK IN THE BOOK TO SET EM UP AND KNOCK EM DOWN.
OTHER COLABARATIONS COME IN THE FORM OF TRUSTY VETERANS OF THE CAUSE WITH GIL SCOTT-HERRON AND SAUL WILLIAMS BRINGING A CLEAR URBAN POETRY TO THE PROCEEDINGS , WHILE BEN HARPER'S BRAINWASHERS BECOMES ATHOUGHTFULL IF NOT LOW KEY ADITION TO THE ALBUM.
SLIGHT FAULTS ARE FOUND PARTICULARLY IN THE UNDER-USE OF FORMER RATM FRONTMAN ZACK DE LA ROCHA ONE WORD VOCAL CONTRIBUTION IN 'RELEASE' AND SOLESIDES NEW SIGNINGS LIFESAVAS BRING LITTLE TO THE MIX.
BUT AS A WHOLE BLAZING ARROW BECOMES AN UNCOMPROMISING NEXT CHAPTER IN THE QUANNUMS FAMILY ALBUM.
(REVIEWERS NOTE:- MY OLD MAN THANKS BLACKALICIOUS FOR INCLUDING HARRY NILSSON ON THEIR SAMPLE LIST)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Second Album Puts Them Back On Top, 6 May 2002
By A Customer
These guys have been around for years, but relatively few have heard of them. They both hail from San Francisco, and that is where they developed their unique, fresh style.
They are a rap group, but with a twist.
With camios from Dilated Peoples, Cut Chemist ( Jurassic 5) and more, their non- gangster style will get them along way.

4.0 out of 5 stars ., 4 Oct 2007
For me, this will always be the ultimate "I don't like rap but I like this" album. Jurassic 5 may hold that crown for the rest of the indie kids, but Blazing Arrow isn't an album that has to aimlessly venture back into the Golden Age to have fun. Everything here is firmly rooted in this millenium, from Xcel's eclectic production to Gab's rapid, ever-elequent rhymes. It's still the album I'll reach for this when I want to convert people to the genre. Great work!
