5.0 out of 5 stars beatiful and sexy, 18 Feb 2003
This is a collection of 4 short-movies by young Belgian director Bavo Defurne, a regular at film festivals worldwide, specially the gay & lesbian themed festivals.
Raging from 8 mn to 21 mn, shot in b/w or color (two of each, actually), al films evolve around the idea of young men discovering sex and sexuality, making it quite obvious what interests Defurne and how he develops his cinematic work.
The movies are beatifully shot, and the cinematography is superb (specially in Campfire, with it's saturated colors, and Sailor, a sort of animated Pierre & Giles kind of thing). Dialogue is scarce, or even non-existent, but that only reinforces the oniric tone of these films.
The dvd edition includes a very interesting interview with the director, and a selection of still pics taken from the movies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy, wonderful short films from - Belgium!, 23 Sep 2002
By A Customer
These short films are sexy, wonderful and a real revelation. There's sense of sadness to each of the films as they explore the stories of young, beautiful gay men who never seem to get their man! The young Belgian director, Bavo Defurne, creates a slightly surreal universe that reminded me a bit of the work of photographers Pierre et Gilles. The camera always lingers on handsome faces and gorgeous bodies, but the films are about much deeper emotions. My favourite was 'Sailor' about a young boy who fantasises about his sailor love. In one amazing sequence the boy reaches out into the heavens, grabs the Milky Way, and places in in an envelope to send to his lover. Magical stuff. The title film is ravishing, too, and will tap into many people's boyhood fantasies about camping away from home! The DVD also includes a good interview with the director who is pretty sexy himself.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 30 Jul 2004
Having bought the DVD on the strength of the other reviews on this website I was bitterly disappointed when I actually received the DVD. The films are short, gay-themed and full of pretty boys. "Campfire" and "Sailor" are shot in colour and the other two in black and white. "Particularly in Spring" looks like it was filmed on what looked like a very poor quality 1930's cine camera. I spend most of the film trying to see the images rather than focussing on the story, though having rewatched it I'm not sure that there was an actual storyline. "Campfire" and "Sailor" are the best of the four films, both quite poignant short stories but in mind opinion not worth buying the DVD for.
