3.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable gore filled horror film of a very low budget., 26 Jul 2004

Here we have Danny Draven's low-budget, tongue firmly in cheek, B-movie gore film. Released by Film 2000 you know the budget's going to be low and the DVD extras are going to be minimal. You've got your usual 'Scene Selection' and 'Trailers' with this release, the trailers being 'Witch House 3 - Demon Fire', 'Graveyard Shift' and 'The Dummy'.

All in all, Hell Asylum brings you a bit of a badly acted laugh, with low-budget, creative and well constructed special gore effects. The plot isn't the most original of plots, but it does offer up a great potential for some nasty splatter.

The characterization is very poor, the storyline weak and the acting diabolical, but it's still enjoyable to watch and worth picking up if it's on the cheap.

A must-have for devotees of B-movie horror. Haven't laughed so much in ages. It has become a legend in its own right around our place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius B-Movie, 10 April 2009

Definitely up there (along with Warriors and The Undefeatable) as one of the best films ever.... because it's so bad!

Every aspect of this film is terrible. The acting and story line is so bad though, that it literally had me and my mates crying in laughter and completely wore down the 'rewind' button on the remote.

On top of that, the films in the trailers at the beginning are must-see as they look even worse/funnier than even this movie.

The fun generally starts with the DVD case itself though with such classic slogans as:
"Hell Asylum... You have been forewarned"
"The body count has to be seen to be believed"
and "Strap yourself in".

So first of all. How exactly have we, the viewer, been forewarned by the point where we're reading that?!
We also counted the number of people that actually died in this film while watching and it was about 12 or 13... not exactly an unbelievable amount!
Then there's "Strap yourself in". I can only imagine this is meant to lead on to "...the funniest film ever".

And one final piece of info on this film is that the monster thing on the front is not actually even in it!
No appearance at all. Nothing.

So basically, buy it, get a load of mates round and (I'll use my previously used line here) strap yourself in for one of the most unintentionally funny films out there.
You have been forewarned!
