If you want a DVD of Riverdance this is a fair enough version. The passion and spark of the original has gone, the Spanish dances in particular are lacklustre. The lead dancers lack the showmanship of Flately and Butler but do a perfectly competent job. On the plus side the visuals are far more sophisticated. I'm not sure I really needed a narrator to explain the 'plot' to me, but maybe some folks will find it helpful. As for me I'm transferring my original VHS version to DVD as I type.

Overall the DVD is great. I've always loved Riverdance and will continue to always love it and this DVD didnt disappoint me.

The new costumes are gorgeous and the new dances are incredible. Trading Taps is a fun American dance vs traditional Irish Tap with both sides making fun of eachother which adds a bit of humour to it all.

The voice over story seems to have been expanded on since New York.

The downsides of this show is first, the main female vocalist, she is dreadful, I couldnt wait for her to stop singing, she just couldnt hit the notes she needs so a bad choice by the people who let her sing main.
Second the last dance finale is ruined by the credits coming up over the screen while they are dancing, I was not impressed with that one bie.
Finally, if you own Riverdance Live from New York you will notice that the extra features on that DVD and this one are the same!! With the exeption of about 1 minute and a half at the end which was very disappointing.

Overall very good, well worth the money if you're a fan.

"Riverdance: The Show 2002" is disappointing. It has the makings of a good production but is seriously let down by the stage lighting and scenery which just looks too much like a cardboard cut-out. The cast use a type of wireless microphone which clips on the ear, and it gives a 'space age' feel which sits uneasily with the 'dawn of time' story that is being told. The music is OK, but lacks punch and dynamics, and the musicians clothes look somewhat out of place. The inclusion of the Moscow Folk Ballet Company is an odd choice. There is one male singer who performs solo and who has a voice to die for, but I'm still not sure of his name! I bought this DVD to remind me of the production I saw in London several years ago, but overall I am disappointed.
Included with this DVD there is a brief history of Riverdance ("The Story So Far") which gives some useful insights into the way Riverdance burst on to the world stage. The accompanying Photo Gallery was, however, hardly worth the effort...
