I first saw this film at cinemas when it was released all those years ago. After seeing it once I returned to see it 4 more times at the cinema and each time I cried like a baby. Even 20 odd years on (I now own it on video AND DVD) I can watch it and break down crying almost immediately the opening credits show. The most amazing performances by Ricky Schrooder and Jon Voight. You know how normally kids in american movies are soooooooooooo sickly sweet and so obviously "actors", Ricky as TJ would melt the heart of anyone, man, woman or child. It has been shown on British TV many many times over the years and often I've been channel hopping and have come across a showing of it, you can guarantee regardless of which point I catcht he film, I will be bawling in seconds.
Get it, watch it, I dare you - and I challenge even the hardest person out there not to cry..........

To say that this is the ultimate film is most definately an understatement. It will make the beefiest man cry like a baby, and will make anyone who watches it consider how they treat the close people around them every second of every day.
This protrays the battle of an ex-boxing champion and single parent, Billy Flynn, and his constant battle to survive against alcohol and gambling. After a spell in prision, and becoming penniless, "The Champ" decides to take to the ring one last time to try and win the world title once again and win enough money to be able to support his son for the rest of their lives.
John Voight is amazing in this film, but even better is the young boy who plays his son. If you thought the young lad in Sixth Sense was good, just wait until you see this.
How this film ends is just as amazing aswell. But you will have to watch it to find out.
THIS IS A FILM YOU WILL NEVER EVER FORGET WATCHING. And you had better get those tissues ready...it guarentees to make you cry.
