Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Compiling film themes into a consistently engaging listen has never been easy. Sony has really pulled it off on The Classic Score though, drawing together a genuinely impressive playlist from multiple labels and artists. Its success is in part down to the ear of whoever compiled it, but it's also a fantastic reminder that film music has by no means grown stale while embracing the 21st century. Witness the popular hits: The Phantom Menace's "Duel of the Fates", Harry Potter, Gladiator, Hannibal, Black Hawk Down, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, American Beauty, Planet of the Apes, Chocolat and Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Lest we forget how great the 1990s were, there's Braveheart, Schindler's List, Born on the Fourth of July, JFK, Dances With Wolves and The Piano. Add perennial classics such as The Last Emperor and The Deer Hunter's "Cavatina", and any soundtrack collector will admit this is the best collection of themes there's been in a long time. Noticeable by its absence is Titanic, which conclusively proves these two discs were extremely cleverly and considerately compiled.--Paul Tonks

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant - loads of great pieces from top films, 22 Aug 2003
I really love this album. It includes the well known themes from many classic films, including Braveheart, Lord of the Rings, Schindler's List and Jurassic Park, and less well known pieces which are every bit as good. Tracks range in style from powerful war marches to lighthearted themes to dreamy melodies.

With two cds included, there are loads of different tracks and it's excellent value for money. There's something for everyone, and I enjoy listening to it whatever mood I'm in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Excellent Collection, 1 May 2002
By A Customer
The variety and depth of some of these scores give a memorable listening experience, one which I personnally can listen to over and over again. The inclusion of some new scores such as Final fantasy add to this collection as a whole. A must for any score listener

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-buy, 27 April 2002
By A Customer
With the influx of chillout cd's that seem to be turning up lately it's refreshing to listen to a cd that has no assumptions, with brilliant tracks that stay with you well after they've finished.
Most of the cd focuses on tracks from recently new films:
E.g Charlotte Gray,Lord of the rings,Enigma,A Beautiful mind etc. However there are some timeless classics that as a rule have to be on this cd.
Songs such as the themes from great films like Mission Impossible,The Piano,Braveheart and Gladiator.
Overall a must-buy for anyone who wonders what that song, from that movie was, and for soundtrack lovers aswell!
