Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Forget the truckload of amps and gizmos previously needed to get your Fender Strat twanging and try Cakewalk's Guitar Tracks Pro software--a 32 track studio on disc. Like any professional recording setup, it has a master console (or "interface") where you'll find all the knobs and dials relating to each of the 32 trax of digital audio. With this you can lay down your leading riffs, mix in some backing guitar and pretty much meld in any other instrument you like--all with a few mouse clicks. Then you can get really clever.

Guitar Tracks Pro allows you to alter the dynamics, add flange, delay, wah-wah and reverb, compress or expand each bar or note, and generally get jiggy with your riffs and strums. There's even an automatic tuner for those blue note moments (let's face it, we all have 'em).

There's a "loop library" that allows you to choose some on-disc percussion back-up and a drum loop generator for when you're bored of these off-the-shelf digital paradiddles. In short, it's all a far cry from the days of the old Vox 30 amp. --Sean Thomas

5.0 out of 5 stars a musicians dream come true, 18 Oct 2002
By J. R. Cook "jamiec46" (Chelmford, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

I had purchased the earlier Guitar Tracks a year ago and was pleased with the results. I decided to change up to Guitar Tracks Pro after seeing it advertised in a Guitarist magazine. I was not disappointed, the extra tracks have allowed me to expand my song writing and guitar techniques beyond my wildest dreams. I am still finding new ways of recording instruments after nearly six months of use. The amp simulator is a real bonus allowing me to achieve guitar sounds I could only previously dream of.

    But it now!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gujarati Free..., 25 April 2003
By John Tansey (UK) - See all my reviews

I can't believe how easy this software is to use. If you are like me and want to make music but are no good with computors, and those little windows that flash up telling you you've done something wrong again might as well be written in Gujarati for all the help they are, then I recomend Guitar Tracks Pro.

But don't be fooled by the name, you don't have to be the next Jimi Hendrix to use this, you can plug in a microphone and record whatever you want. So far I've used it for Vocals, Trumpets, Pianos, Drums, Keyboards and counting.

The features that allow you to put effects on your guitar are alright, though I prefer to use my peddle to get the tones I need. However these effects have been put to better use adding reverb and flange to vocal lines and even a trumpet solo, such is the advantage of using a guitar program.

Unfortunatly you will need to read the manual to get the most out of Guitar Tracks' best features, however I am yet to do so and have produced three, demo quality songs for my Music GCSE course. For guitarists it's as simple as plugging your axe into the Line In, arming the track, pressing record and then laying down the next number one. If you're hoping to use a mic then you'll need a Pre Amp to plug it into and then cables from that into the Line In, but using the Pre Amp does mean you can get the optimum sesitivity for your microphne which is fantatsic.

Whatever your instrument, I recomend Guitar Tracks Pro as it is simple to use from the off, clearly explained in the manual and online, Cakewalk's technical support is quick and reliable and it's a 32 track recorder for an incredible price, well done to Amazon for such a reduction off the RRP!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent package for audio work, 10 Jun 2002
    By A Customer
If you're a home user and primarily interested in recording audio and don't need MIDI this package is great, especially for the guitarist who is used to a home 4/8 track recorder already. Very straightforward and easy-to-use interface which actually looks like a mixing desk - the advantage of not having to take the MIDI stuff into account.
Support for Direct-X plug-ins is a real bonus, as there is quite alot of free stuff out there and some high quality buyable stuff at very reasonable prices. The bundled plug-ins are quite good themselves. The built-in wav editing functions are adequate for most purposes, but if you need more, just get a dedicated wav/audio editor that also supports direct-x (eg CoolEdit 2000) and you can use those plug-ins in your wav editor too! As long as you don't get too ambitious it quite happily copes with real time effects processing.
If you need more than 8 tracks, get v2.0, which is even better.
I recently got complimented by some professional studio guys on the quality of some demos I'd done just with Guitar Tracks and a couple of paid-for plug-ins (CakeWalk's FX3 reverb suite and the excellent BBE Sonic Maximiser) on a bog standard PC, with a bog standard sound card - so all credit to CakeWalk.
