Amazon.co.uk Review
Dragons have always had something of a bad rap. What with all that fire-breathing, sleeping in beds of gold and Hobbit gobbling you'd think they were a bad lot. In Dragon Rage, 3DO hope to convince PS2 owners otherwise. It's quite a novelty flying a dragon--rather than the more traditional aircraft--round a 3D landscape, and with flapping noises accompanying the forward motion it's actually quite a peaceful experience--quite a shame when you might expect Middle Earth-type action. The landscapes are flat and boring, which is also a pity, and the dragon at the centre of the game has the intelligence of mud, allowing for truly frustrating experiences involving flying directly into hillsides. The opposition too are flat and lifeless and, frustratingly, your scaly beast has absolutely no desire to eat a single Orc, goblin or other green-skinned entity. For a game that should promise massive action and adventure this is a major failing. The sound department fails in! several major areas too: for a start there are no real background tunes, and right through the game, starting with the training mission, the woman used for the voiceovers sounds bored to tears as she ham acts her way through her lines. It's pretty ghastly. Overall, in spite of its cheap price point, Dragon Rage fails to impress, which is a shame as dragon-related flame action could have been so much fun.--Chris Russell

3.0 out of 5 stars Fly high like a dragon!, 2 April 2002
With relatively recent films such as Dragon Heart and even Dungeons and Dragons, dragons have made a small and relatively ineffective comeback, but at least they have showed dragons to be something other than evil, careless, human hating. Games, however, haven't done such a good job of it (Spyro The Dragon being the exception since it's a platformer, not a shooter).
With 3DO's Dragon Rage, players get the chance to take on the role of a powerful dragon, flying, blasting fireballs, and terrorizing orc villages, and it's quite a fun game. Dragon Rage, once known as Dragon Wars, portrays Cael, a dragon who has been chosen to help free the rest of the dragon tribe from an industrious civilization of orcs that have enslaved and systematically killed them off to near extinction.

3DO's game is a decent one: It's relatively easy to pick up and play, it fulfills a kind of shooter urge that nearly every gamer has, and the variety of gameplay is decent. It's not a stunning game in any way, but for the lower price, it's a worthwhile buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, 10 Dec 2003
By A Customer
With stunning graphics and details on the landscapes and Cael (the dragon you play as), this is a must for any dragon-lover. Even if you own the game but aren't really a fan of the giant fire-breathing lizards, you don't really need to love dragons to appreciate the beautiful graphics and movements. There's detail in nearly every thing, and Cael's flying ability is effected by weather effects, such as wind or rain, which adds to the realism altogether.

With many different abilities, from ice-breath to streaming fire with 5 different levels of strength, this'll keep you entertained for days, most likely weeks. Although the start is rather slow (the first level is a training level), it soon speeds up and you'll be destroy Orc villages and scorching grasslands in no time (think Reign of Fire).

The controls are fairly easy to manage as there aren't too many buttons you have to use, so you should be able to get the hang of it in minutes. Although I was rather dissapointed with the fact that the makers of the game took out two of the levels (where you could actually land and use new abilities that weren't available before), the other levels more than make up for it.
As I said before, this is a must for any dragon-lover.
