While Spandau Ballet's first two albums earned them European popularity, their third, TRUE, made them worldwide stars. The idiosyncratic blend of Bowie, funk, New Wave, and electronics that marked their earlier work was traded in for a smoother, much more accessible sound here. One couldn't really accuse the band of selling out, though, as the elegantly soulful ballad sound at the heart of TRUE played a role in their musical inspiration from the beginning (remember, the New Romantics were essentially soul boys, not rockers). The title track, a glistening slow-dance classic, both literally andmusically evocative of Marvin Gaye, was an international smash, and made Spandau Ballet a household name. "Lifeline" expands on this aspect of the group's sound, evincing a noticeable Philly Soul influence, and "Communication" is catchy, mid-tempo R&B/pop. Such tracks as "Gold", however, would not have sounded out of place on a Broadway or Vegas stage, foreshadowing the ever more commercial sound Spandau would pursue as the 1980s wore on.

True by Spandau fronted by Tony Hadley has to be one of the best albums not only of the band but of the whole early 80's. As soon as you listen to the haunting tracks from 'Gold' to 'True' it takes you sweeping back to 1983. Spandau seemed to encapsulate the New Romantic era along with 'Duran Duran' and make it there own. All the songs on this now classic album are fantastic and sound as good today as they did then. What with Tony's melo vocals to Gary Kemps song writing talents the band couldn't loose !. This is a must buy all the better for the re-mix of 'GOLD' and the home movie footage for the P.C as a VCD. The album gives a warm glow to day's gone that will never be so better captured by any band.

If you'd read the product details, you'd have seen that this album was released in 2003, therefore it was the 20th anniversary back then.

HOW CAN THIS BE A 20TH ANNIVERSARY RELEASE WHEN THE ORIGINAL WAS FROM 1983.
IF THIS IS A REISSUE OF AN OLD ALBUM IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN EXPANDED BETTER.
I HAVE COME TO EXPECT A SECOND DISC OF REMIXES, B SIDES AND LIVE TRACKS.
THERE COULD HAVE ALSO BEEN A DVD WITH 5:1 SURROUND SOUND.
SOMETHING LIKE THE EXCELLENT SIMPLY RED UPDATES.
MAYBE THIS HAS BEEN SAVED FOR THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY REISSUE?True: 20th Anniversary Enhanced Edition
