2.0 out of 5 stars Sven-Goran Eriksson's World Manager, 3 Jul 2002
By S. Weir "simon2112" (Edinburgh) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Sven is a master tactician of the England team and this game gives you the chance to follow in his foot steps to see if you can take England to the world cup and if possible try to win it.

The game itself is nicely set out, the graphics are clear and you are able to pick any english players from anywhere in the world, so you can take your own ideal squad to play in the competition. You can also pick the tactics that you think will be good against the opposition. And just for a nice touch clubs are able to recall any of their players that they might need for a club match, and what with players retireing it is a good idea to make a shortlist of at least 9 goal keepers and between 10 and 14 of all the rest of the out field players, although this becomes complecated if you also want to manage the under 21 team as well, so you may not be able to get all of the players that you wish.

Now the bad things about this game. Although the graphics are clear, the player strips are slightly wrong. The England home strip is very good, their away strips are not quite right. As for when the matches themselves are in action, a friend and myself have had the problem that our strikers would be clean through on goal and they would either miss the target when the shot or more bizarly they would just turn around and pass the ball back to the defence. There also is trouble just trying to hang on to the ball, a defender will pass the ball more than likely to a member of the opposition which will then put you back under pressure again to defend.
Also something that i noticed was missing was the lack of freekicks for fouls as well as penalties and yellow and red cards. There is also a problem with the off sides. I recently played the game and during the entire match every offside and there were no less than 20 were given against David Seaman or Sol Cambell who were back in their proper positions, i don't know what was going on here but this needs to be sorted out.

World Cup Winner (or Not):
It has to be a not, although the game play is smooth and the chance to pick any England team that you want makes it more of a challenge the mistakes and the things that are missing really ruin the game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sven Goran Eriksson's World Manager, 27 Jun 2002
By A Customer
There is both good things and bad things about this game. The graphics are good and clea, but they are however a bit small and teams strips sometimes don't look right, also sokethimes it is hard to get the players to do what you want them to do. Astriker will be clear and then running at goal when all of a sudden he will turn around and pass the ball back to either a defender or a member of the oposition. Also the defenders have a nasty nack of scoring own goals when they are trying to defend. However this aside this game is a nice idea its fairly smooth when running, and you can pick the England team that you think is best to win the cup. This means that if you wish you can leave the likes of Beckham, Scholes and owen out of the squad. The general layout of the game is good, all the menus are well defined. However there seems to be a lack of yellow and red cards as well as free kicks and penalties.

Final Result:
If you are a die hard football manager game freak then this may be for you, if not then this may not be for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars A tip for corners, 5 May 2003
This is an addictive game. The only team you can manage is England. Corners are very good for creating chances. Get David Beckham to take them. If he is not playing, get Michael Ball of rangers to play at left back and take them. It is quite easy to win the world cup as england are overrated on it. 4 out of 5 for the exciting gameplay. The only bad thing is your players cant control the ball.
