Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Desert Siege is the add-on to the tactical first-person combat shooter. Needing the original, this mission pack takes off where the last instalment finishes and offers eight intense new missions, four new, dedicated multiplayer arenas to challenge the most ardent fan, plus a heap of new weapons. Set across the backdrop of Northern Africa where conflict has erupted between Ethiopia and Eritrea, the UN is under constant attack. In steps you and your trusted band of men trained up to the nines in all tactical situations.

Like before, the game is based around the use of three combat squads; learning how to master their movements à la Rogue Spear style "in game" is the key to success throughout the missions. For those who relish the idea of completing the new levels quickly, be warned, they are designed for those who have completed the first game and their difficulty reflects this. However, Ubi Soft and Red Storm have done well to include new multiplayer maps and game types which can also be used on the original title. Failing that, the game comes with editing tools to make your own levels and with plenty of new scenarios and new landscapes to pit your skills against, this is a welcome add-on. --Jason Denwood

5.0 out of 5 stars More of the same- thankfully., 3 April 2002
Ghost Recon is still one of my favorite first person shooters, blending stealth, tactics and some good fireworks.

This mission pack sees the Ghosts out on the borders of Ethiopia and Eritrea, clearing a path for a UN peacekeeping force.

The new single player missions, of which there are eight, are of a consistently high quality. There aren't any really irritating or duff missions, though some require quick-thinking and tight squad control (when playing on the highest difficulty level..)

Multiplayer sees the introduction of the now-familiar "Domination" game type a la UT/Quake and a rather fun "Seige" game too.

The new maps (both single and multiplayer) are fairly impressive, with scorched sand, gnarled trees and a blazing sun. The oil refinery (in mission 2?) was particularly nicely constructed.

There is a new specialist available (a local soldier with a large weapon and lots of endurance, fnar). There are also some new weapons available, though most of these are for multiplayer mode only. The Barret and H+K PSG1 sniper rifles, some FN kit and some interesting Soviet gizmos also add some extra firepower to an already fairly terminal experience.

The AI has been tightened up too; team mates are better about not wandering into friendly fire and more sensible about taking cover. Conversely, the enemies are more likely to circle around behind you given a chance, or flush you out of cover using grenades. A patch for the original ghost recon is available too, so you can reap the benefits of this in the first game as well.

The Ghost Recon engine still looks very good, and given all the improvements and new features, fans of the original game might like to consider the expansion pack.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing through it; my only criticism is that maybe I'd have liked twice as many single player missions..

4.0 out of 5 stars ghost recon just gets even better..., 5 April 2002
If you are a GR fan then you quite simply have to buy this expansion. The missions, now set in Africa, revolve aroud another believable scenario, conflict has broken out between Ethiopia and Eritrea and the ghosts are once again called upon to do what they do best.

The desert environment offers little cover, so a change of tactics is required in comparison with the more heavily tree covered Georgian landscape of ghost recon. Firefights are more deadly than ever, with a noticable improvement in the enemy AI and many other general improvements to gameplay. Combine this with the new weapons available in multiplayer and i bet you will be spending a good few hours emptying your M60 in the general direction of the bad guys.

Nothing i have ever played comes close to this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very challenging and intelligent!, 6 Aug 2004

(REAL NAME)
I bought Desert Siege because I liked so much the original Ghost Recon. I think it's a very good game, the AI is intelligent and you have to think and plan before you start to shoot.
In Desert Siege I saw that the AI is improved: now the enemy patrols and surround you very quickly. In some missions (like the "refinery mission") the AI is difficult to win, in other mission is less difficult.
The mission pack it's short! I think in 10 hours of game you can complete it.
By the way the possibility to plan your strategy with 6 "hi-tech" soldiers is very interesting and seems so realistic!

I suggest this game to the ones who like tactical shooters. I think this is one of the best!
