Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The weirdest ears in gaming come to the Game Boy Advance in Klonoa: Empire of Dreams. Klonoa, the super-cute critter with limb-like ears, must help Emperor Jillius who has been struck with a strange illness that robs him of the ability to dream. It’s up to Klonoa to defeat the monsters that are terrorising the empire and solve the mystery behind the emperor’s ailment.

Featuring 40 levels and spanning five worlds, this title mixes up gameplay nicely. Action stages are traditional 2-D platform levels similar to classic Mario and Sonic games. In these levels Klonoa runs or rides a hoverboard through obstacle-filled lands. Boss stages pit him against a large creature with a hidden weak point. The most engaging levels are the puzzle stages that require Klonoa to gather three keys to unlock the exit. These stages are very well designed and require thought and imagination on the player’s part. In order to reach some keys Klonoa will need to grab certain objects, monsters, or a combination thereof to reach his goal. As each monster produces a different effect when thrown and surfaces react differently when hit, lots of trial and error is required.

Although the graphics are very bright, they aren’t as detailed as in other GBA games. The sound is excellent but the cute music and effects--particularly the gibberish language spoken by the characters--might annoy older gamers. Those with an aversion to cuteness should turn the volume down, sit back and enjoy one of the best platform games for the GBA.--Raymond M. Padilla

Pros:

  • Excellent level design
  • Good use of the GBA’s sound capabilities
  • Classic gameplay that’s perfect for fans of 16-bit platform games

Cons:

  • Sound might be too cute for mature gamers
  • Graphics lack detail
  • Can be finished in fewer than 10 hours

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE IT - MY SON LOVES IT - YOU'LL LOVE IT, 30 April 2002

It's the best handheld game I played so far. This is a platform-game for the thinking man/woman. Most of the levels require puzzle-solving. Even when you stop playing - if you can - you will not stop thinking about it. There are a few extra-levels that only require fast reaction. Happily, you don't have to finish those to get to the bosses, and to open new levels. The bosses require some thinking, and some fast reaction. But they're not too hard, so you'll beat them in the end. The colours of the game are very bright and everything is eye-candy. Wonderfull ! To be honest, I enjoyed this game more than I did enjoy any other. Did you love Warioland 4 ? Well, go for this one too. It's a bit easier though ; not for hardcore gamers. It's very suitable for beginners, for old and young. I'm 40 years old. My son is ten and played it too. He also loved it very much ! So we argued about who's turn it was to play. Klonoa, thank you and come again.
