Amazon.co.uk Review
Determined to squeeze every last ounce out of the FIFA license, Electronics Arts have released their footy sim for the Xbox--2002 FIFA World Cup. Taking the essence of FIFA 2002 and modifying it for the world's greatest tournament, EA have restricted the scope of the game, offering only two modes of play (full tournament and friendly) and the 32 teams which are taking part in the tournament. That said, it still plays the same as its older brother and the look and feel given by the inclusion of the new stadia and enhanced sound effects really brings the game to life.

Owners of the full-fat 2002 game will want to think very seriously before paying out for this "special" release, but for those who've not come across the franchise before, or those looking for a break from Pro Evolution Soccer, this game has entertainment by the sack load. Graphically it looks the business and the pre-match build-ups are eye candy to please any jaded palette. In-game, too, the player graphics are nicely detailed and there are some wonderful individual animations covering all manner of complex looking moves, swerves and dives. In fact, the only thing that really lets the side down is the speed of the game during more hectic midfield moments, when the frame rate stutters appallingly--a little poor for a game that's been through so many development revisions. Control is nice and simple and it's a breeze to pick this title up and start booting the pigskin around the park within a couple of minutes, though mastering the finer points of ball control and the elusive "lob in" will take a good deal longer.

2002 FIFA World Cup really does have a lot going for it. It's not as technical as the ISS games, and it doesn't have the scope or gameplay modes of FIFA 2002, but it does have atmosphere in abundance. If you're a newcomer to the franchise or you've missed the last couple of major releases then it's certainly worth a look. --Chris Russell

Product Description
With 16 of the best leagues and over 75 national teams, FIFA 2002 brings the game of the world to your fingertips. You will execute curling corner kicks, awesome slide tackles, shots from the top of the box, crunching challenges and palm-wringing penalty kicks.

Amoung the major enhancements to this version is the passing system--the core of any real soccer (football) game. It now emulates the same decisions made in a real match. Being able to place the ball anywhere on the field of play allows gamers an immensely increased repertoire in terms of building up plays. Your team mates now make long up-field runs, diagonal runs through the midfield and across the back of the opponent's defence. They'll call for the ball as they break letting you know to pass into the space ahead of them.

The AI has also been totally re-written. It searches for space and key weaknesses in your team's positioning, and will make off-the-ball runs and build up intelligent passing plays before striking a precise through ball behind your last line. Depending on the difficulty level, the AI will be a much more interesting and challenging opponent than in previous versions.

5.0 out of 5 stars What X-Box has been waiting for, an awesome football title!, 28 April 2002
By Mr. M. W. Grove "mark5211" (Manchester) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is one of the main reasons why I bought an X-Box, the Football Games, and the system really did need this game and more importantly it needed it to be a good one, well it does not dissapoint, from loading the game you can see the unbelievable graphics the faces on the players are just amazing, you can tell who every player is without any doubt by just looking at their life-like faces, the 20 new stadiums are amazing too. On starting a game you will notice that the crowd who are all dressed in their teams colours chant for their own country and as the teams enter the pitch area the crownd noise gradually increases obviously with excitement!, also added to this game are lasers, flags, and masses of ticker-tape.
The game is based around the seven games needed to win the World Cup with loads of new moves, even agressive tackles are really x rated, the Orchestra play play while the game is going on (during free kicks etc), new camera angles and brilliant gameplay make this the most accessable game on the X-Box, Ive also seen the inferior Playstation 2 version which only has 40 international teams compared with X-Box's 75, and the AI on the X-Box is by far superior, you can make off the ball runs, your team mates call for the ball which is so refreshing, much more intelligent, interesting and challenging gameplay than previous attempts on other systems, all in all if you want the ultimate soccer game with virtuallly no flaws (and no loading times) then you must buy this great title, and you will be playing it a long time after the real World Cup ends, guaranteed!

5.0 out of 5 stars XBOX shows off ultimate capabilities with new fifa game!, 30 April 2002
By A Customer
Well, I am truly speechless. This game is spectacular. The PS2 version of this game is totally outclassed by the beauty that is the xbox.
For starters, with previous footie games on any console, often the loading time was obscene and I talk from experience with the likes of World Cup '98 on the PSX taking a whole 2 minutes to load. This is not so with xbox. No problem, no worries whether the console has actually stalled or frozen.
Now the game. It's like a game in raw liquid form, running as smoothly as water. The graphics are smooth, the footballers faces look more real than ever previously seen on a footy game, and the computer AI is brilliant. No more running rings around opposing players with ease and then confidently booting it into the back of the net. The com players actually try to apprehend you and then go on to score. The actual capabilities and versatility of the game options means there is no end to gaming fun, and you'll keep on coming back for more and more. Especially good for the world cup coming up, as I know I do enjoy the anticipation and playing the games BEFORE THEY HAPPEN so I can actually predict the result. Sort of, anyway. Hope this review helped you. (BUY THIS GAME FROM AMAZON, AS IT'S THE CHEAPEST AROUND IN MY OPINION.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, 27 April 2002
By A Customer
Well as you all of you should know Fifa is the king of football games closley followed by the ISS series and then followed by the other attempets game comapnies have made, like David Beckham Soccer, Actua Soccer and adidas pro soccer.

Well to start off with Fifa: World Cup has a different way of controlling you passes, shots and through balls to the way Fifa 2002 was made. Fifa world cup is the more realistic out of the 2 because in Fifa 2002 you could just press a button to shoot and you would automatically turn around and shoot but in Fifa World cup you have to be facing the goal or your shot will go wildly miles from the goal!!

Also there is a new little feature where you press a button and one of the players off the ball will make a run for you and if you aim your pass right you will set that player off and hopefully he might score or bring something good out of it.

But the best thing about this game will probably will have to be the graphics they are stuning every player looks like their real life counter-part, some of the players look better on the game then in real life(no offence to those players) :)

There is nly one thing wroing about this game is that it only has friendly and world cup mode, which manes no leagues or other cups to play for alos there are no club teams to use neither, but if you do love football games you canot miss this game out its fun and addictive to say the least.

Overall this game is a must have for xbox owners, and if others thing wrong well they are wrong, you have to be owner of this game or you cannot call yourself a footie fan.

My Ratings:
Graphics = 9/10
Gameplay = 7.5/10
Lifespan = 7/10
Overall rating = 8/10
