Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Consoles now have little shortage of entries in the extreme sports genre, making it all the more surprising that Aggressive Inline feels that bit different from the rest in the field, and also emerges as one of the most pleasant gaming surprises of the year.

The sport at the heart of it is inline skating, which quickly provides an ample excuse for some fast skating and plenty of tricks. Backed by a friendly and genuinely helpful tutorial, the key options are all present and correct--you can play in career mode, have a free skate, take on timed runs and design your own parks too.

These modes are backed by an admittedly limited but nonetheless varied selection of bountiful levels, each of which holds plenty to keep your attention. Furthermore, each delivers a subtlety different challenge and exerts differing demands on the player. That said, there's still plenty of freedom for you to master the numerous tricks and combos you need to rack up a big score.

Graphically, the game is very strong, and the gameplay is genuinely accessible, offering generous rewards whether you want a quick go or an extended session. Packed with surprises, Aggressive Inline is highly detailed, yet blissfully player-centred. It's no huge evolution in the genre, yet it's still a notable step forward and, bottom line, an excellent and highly enjoyable game. Are you watching, Tony Hawk? --Simon Brew

5.0 out of 5 stars Give me caffeine!!!, 26 Aug 2002
By A Customer
I was up until 2am this morning playing this game, and when I get off the internet in about half an hour (after midnight), I'll probably head for the PS2 and play it for another hour or so.

As you can probably tell from the above, it's a hugely addictive game, but be warned, it's bloody difficult at times, and some of the challenges are quite daft, but that doesn't harm the game at all.

Not being a fan of real-life inline skating, I've never heard of any of the skaters, but no doubt they are among the world's best.

To add to all this, the soundtrack is stunning, including superb bands such as Student Rick, The Vandals, The Ataris, Hoobastank and the mighty Reel Big Fish...generally, being into punk/ska/skateboarding etc, it's the kind of thing I listen to most of the time. There's only one bad song on there ("Youth Of The Nation" by P.O.D.)

Seriously, buy it. Or at least do what I did, which was rent it then buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for Aggressive Inline 2!, 8 Jan 2004
Being a fairly recent PS2 owner, this was the first game to totally consume me, to the detrement of food, sleep, and personal hygiene. As sad as it sounds, it left me looking around for potential trick lines, even while out shopping.

The pace of the game is just right, gently easing you through the tutorial, and gradually cranking up the difficulty. Each level is huge, and the tricks pleasingly non-linear. New levels are unlocked way before you've had a chance to get bored, and contain keys to unlock new vast areas in previous levels. When you do go back, the tricks that seemed so hard the first time are now comparatively simple.

The control system is intuitive, once you've mastered the jump-trick-land-manual combination. Your skater goes when you press Go, and doesn't constantly motor you around unless you hold the Brake button all the time like Tony Hawks. Far more sensible.

I'm going to be very disappointed if there isn't an online Aggressive Inline 2 sometime soon.
