Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Set around the events of 1991's head-to-head with the Iraqis, Conflict: Desert Storm presents a stylised view of the confrontation, allowing players to see the war unfold through the eyes of either Delta Force or the good old SAS. Combining first and third-person perspectives with a thoroughly well-designed team-based model, the game manages to pull off the almost unthinkable double for a console by being both engaging and easy to manage--not something that comes easily when you have a limited number of controller buttons.

The plotline is standard military sim fare--strategic targets must be blown up, prisoners rescued and bullets expended by the thousand--but the extra edge provided by the ability to drive vehicles and to creep around undetected by the excitable Iraqi guards makes this a must-have rather than a nice-to-have. The maximum squad size for any given mission is four team members, each soldier having a special ability ranging from marksmanship to explosives use. In theory, handling four troops simultaneously sounds like a tall order but developer Pivotal has done a great job of creating a control system that works well, even in the heat of battle.

Desert Storm is not an easy game by any stretch of the imagination and the learning curve can be quite steep; stick with it, though, and there's much to recommend it. For the cautious player there's an excellent training mode that gives thorough instruction on how to perform all of the basic functions and is guaranteed to turn you into a killing machine. --Chris Russell

Official PlayStation 2 Magazine
"Deftly mixing gung-ho combat with stealthy dune-ducking, Conflict Desert Storm gives the third-person shooter a superb team-based spin. 8/10."

5.0 out of 5 stars Butt kicking in the desert, 23 Sep 2002
By Mr. M. J. Cooper (The UK) - See all my reviews

A top notch game all round. Game play is superb, action is intense and the skill level is just hard enough to make it challenging, but not too hard to drive you away.

From the first mission rescuing a demolitions expert who has been captured the action never stops. Success relies heavily upon being able to move your troops into positions to provide crossfire for each other and being able to quickly assess the enemies tactics and act accordingly.

The missions provide a good blend of tight street based fighting and wide open desert canyon senarios. Your heart is in your mouth as you turn a corner and are confronted with a Tank commander looking straight at you and your squard.

Unlike other games which have tried squad play (e.g. Rainbow Six), this game works. It's easy to control your team and to get your men into position to make a controlled attack.

It''s a must buy for your Playstation 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth it, 6 Nov 2002
By A Customer
An outstanding game involving the strategic placement of your four man combat team to fufill a wide variety of missions in excellent graphical landscapes. Took me 20 hours of play time to finish on 'easy' level - and a similar amount of time in subsequent attempts on 'medium' level. Enemy fire is accurate and deadly (particularly tanks which must be knocked out quickly). 'Difficult' level is exactly that....a few hits and your man will go down. A pity it only has two vehicle missions/levels - the town/country foot missions are for the most part great. A shoot them up requiring problem solving and planning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, 1 Jan 2003
By Mr McMahon (WWE New York) - See all my reviews
This is truly a great game. The graphics do not stress the ability of the ps2, but are still good. The scenery of the missions are impressive, ranging from deserts, enemy camps, to big cities. In each of these locations you must remain aware, because of the vulnerability of your men to enemy attacks. It is very realistic in terms of weapons, vehicles, and injuries. If your man gets shot in the leg, he limps.
Go and add this game to your shopping basket. NOW, go on, NOW!
