Amazon.co.uk Review

In Rumble in the Bronx Jackie Chan plays a visitor to America who agrees to fend off a biker gang's designs on his uncle's market in the Bronx. If you can get past the Vancouver skyline substituting for the New York City neighbourhood, and the cheesy dubbing job, this is another of Chan's startling, balletic takes on martial arts action. (It's also his first breakthrough American film.) Even if you don't have an interest in fight films, this is worth seeing just for Chan's endless grace as a body in motion. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Cracking - vintage Jackie Chan, 1 Dec 2000
By A Customer
I can't believe no one has reviewed this yet - it's a superb film. In typical Jackie style, there is a large comedy element - especially his unintentionally hilarious little homilies to the cliched baddies - which makes this one of his funniest. But the main thing is, of course, the action. Some of the best fight sequences of his that I've seen - the props used are inspired, and some of the stunts are incredible, especially his leap from the top of a multi-story car park. The storyline is obviously hackneyed and sentimental, but that's not important when he's this much fun to watch. Admittedly not quite as good as Police Story I and II (my favourites), it's still a great film and a worthy addition to any collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly fun.., 28 Jun 2008
I've always had fond memories of this film from when I was a young teenager,
There are so many reasons why this is a brilliant film,
For a start it is very well written, there is the usual mixture of
drama, action and humour that you'd expect from a Jackie Chan film
but I must say that this has to be one of his best.

The action and slapstick humour are so well done that the action is
blisteringly fast (due mainly to jackies stunts)and the humour although
a little too innocent for a film about stolen diamonds and gang fights,
is always funny (again mainly due to Jackie Chan).

Furthermore the sheer scale of some of the stunts is amazing, from jackie
taking on a whole gang in one long fight scene, using everything from
chairs to pinball tables as a weapon, to the finale involving a hovercraft
going rogue through the local populace.

This is a film you can enjoy on your own or with the family, being a Chan
film its not too graphic and the jokes are as I mentioned so innocent that
even the youngest of children would laugh at jackies comedic expressions alone.

Now onto the actual dvd release,
The release quality is really why I havent given this 4 stars, If it was
of the same quality as for instance the HK legends release of project A
I would have given it 5.
But as with most of jsckie's earlier films Its not a very high quality release,
the actual picture is only a bit better than VHS, and there is only a fixed
image as the main menu, which only leads to a scene selection menu,
Furthermore you only get the dubbed americanised sound track which at times
is funny just because it is quite bad, It would have been nice just
to have the original launguage track but to be honest the film probably
wouldnt be as funny without the bad dubbing.....cheesy but great is the word.

Anyway, although the dvd release is a little bit flawed, the film itself is
definately worth a watch whether its a rainy afternoon with the kids
or an evening in with the other half, theres something for everyone to enjoy.

Plus if you're a Jackie fan then you HAVE to get it!
